Topic 3

The new masculinities seek to allow everyone to express their gender as they wish. The macho society makes men feel that they must act according to the stereotype and that they are reluctant to show vulnerability, when in reality it is possible that they are sensitive, affectionate and above all, vulnerable beings.

Masculinities and alternatives for equity and equality for development.

Masculinity is the way we men have been raised and educated and includes the way we think, feel and behave, as well as the way we relate to women and other men. It also defines how we exercise power. It is not biological; it is a social construct influenced by the context of time and culture. There is no specific way of being a man, which is why we speak of masculinities in the plural.

Toxic Masculinity Patriarchal belief system of how a man should be that oppresses and generates insecurity, frustration and lack of freedom. It can generate aggressiveness and violence.
