How to deal with objections: a refresher

Impactful communication

  • Mirror the language and communication style
  • Hooks to engage (promotions, research endeavors etc.)
  • Familiarity – is there a link between yourself and the researcher?
  • Scarcity in the final follow-up (reminder deadlines)

Build your response

  • Breakdown your response by addressing each objection
  • Include informative links (but not too many)
  • Show some personality!

Identify

  • Identify the objection(s)
  • Is it a clear objection/no or can the conversation be steered?

Some frequently asked questions

TIP: we have ‘canned responses’ with data to answer these questions!

Look for alternative

Be creative

Do they agree?

Top Tip

Find and suggest alternative section(s) that they wish to be considered for but also ask the researcher for their input

Provide details of the scope, impact factor, journal ranking and SCE (be creative!)

Researcher agrees with your suggestion – contact SCE for approval or add to profiling list

Use Nessie insights – ‘Field of Study’ or ‘Closest Frontiers Journal’ to begin your search.

Why do you have so many editors?

Broad Scope

Journals are broad in scope and represent the whole community of a discipline, each section is comparable to a journal in its own right

Greater inter-disciplinarity

A broader umbrella journal allows for greater inter-disciplinarity and fosters exchanges and networks within the community

Higher Submissions

Frontiers journals attract a high number of submissions: more editors mean more specialisms and greater scholarly care of the articles
