In 2001 the treaty of nice takes place and in 2004 10 new countires join the EU and 2 more join in . In 2005 the EU constitution is created. In 2012 the EU receives the Nobel Peace Prize. In 2013 Croatia joins the UN and UK leaves in 2020.
In 1981 Greece becomes the 10th country to join and in 1986 Spain and Portugal also join. In 1987 the Erasmus programme launches to fund university students that wish to study in another european country.
In the 1960's are great years for the economic growth of the European Union, they stop charging fees when trading with each other and they now have control over food production.

In 1992 the Maastricht Treaty is signed and the EU receives its actual name. In 1995 the EU receives 3 new member countries, Austria, Finland and Sweden and in 1997 border-free travels begin in 7 of the countries. In 1999 the Euro is introduced in 11 countries.
The European Union is created after WW2 with the idea of economic cooperation in mind because if interdependence between countries increases there will be less chances of conflicts between countries being created.
In 1973 3 other countries join the European Union and a oil crisis takes place the same year in Europe. In 1974 the European regional policy is created and in 1979 the first elections to the European Parliament take place.
