The second annual Fall Festival is planned for October 15th. It is going to be bigger and better than last year. I hear there will be some local celebrities to dunk in the dunk tank. We start our Homecoming week on October 16th and end the week with our Homecoming Dance on Saturday October 22nd from 7-10pm. Please check our website for times of all events. Exploratory Program: The Exploratory Program has begun and we have successfully completed our first cycle! Just a reminder, take time to review the expectations and requirements for each technical program, included in the Exploratory Assembly Handout, prior to entering each exploratory selection. These expectations and requirements will have an impact on your program's exploratory grade, which could affect your ultimate shop assignment.

Student Advisory Committee

The Student Advisory Committee represents the student voices at OC. Each month the committee will meet with Mr. Parker to go over topics, requests, and ideas the students have. All of this is then presented to our School Committee members at their monthly School Committee meetings. This committee is what OC is all about; hearing from our students and making sure they are having the best possible school experience. We encourage students to sign up for this committee and be an active part of our OC community. All students who join and participate in the Student Advisory Committee will receive a letter of recommendation from Mr. Parker for their student portfolios. First meeting will be held on September 21, 2021 at 7:30 in the gym. Contact Mrs. Craig in the main office to sign up!!

Academic News

Welcome back to OC! It’s been a great start to the 22-23 School Year and the academic departments are back in full swing.

Cougar Time is back! This flex block is built into the day to allow for intervention and enrichments. On the first day of each academic cycle, students meet with their mentors to check in on how school’s going, review grades, and self schedule for extra help or an enrichment course. This can be a time to get a jump on homework, make up a missed quiz, or just check in with some questions about the previous class! Enrichment Courses are starting the week of September 26th and students who have a 75 or better in all courses can take a look at the enrichment offerings and self schedule for whatever piques their interest. If any student has suggestions on what they’d like to see offered, or would like to plan and teach a course, they should talk to their teachers or Mr. Parker. We look to see student led classes! Be sure that you are on the lookout for our Cougar Time Enrichment offerings from Ms. Craig & check in with your mentor if you have questions. Remember, we know life happens! So, if at any point it looks like you may need some extra support in an area, you may be rescheduled to see another teacher to help you get caught up, so be sure to check your Enriching Students schedule everyday!

Cougar Connection: Our Library is open every Monday - Thursday until 4:30. Be sure to stop in if you want to use any of the library resources, form study or homework groups with your classmates, or just need a place to get some work done before heading home, work, or practice. There will be teachers in the library all four days to answer your questions. Students who drive or can arrange for a ride home are welcome to stay until 4:30. We also have late buses Mon - Th that depart at 3:50.

Late Bus: We have late buses available Monday - Thursday every week, with the exception of half days or days where we don’t have school. Buses leave promptly at 3:50pm.

AP Students & Families: Be on the lookout for info from your teachers on the Saturday Support session in your courses. We offer these in collaboration with Mass Insight and you get to meet like minded AP students from all over Massachusetts, attend targeted test taking sessions, work with your own OC AP teachers as well as other AP professionals, and win prizes! These are being offered for AP Calculus AB, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Computer Science A, AP English Language & Composition, and AP English Literature and Composition. There are always incentives for attending, so remember to check in with your AP teacher.

Attendance & Timeliness: THANK YOU SO MUCH for such a great start. When you’re here you can learn and you’ve done a great job getting to class on time and prepared to learn. Keep up the great work. We can’t wait to see all your growth and accomplishments this year.

After School Days: All teachers are available on Tuesday or Thursday of each week, so be sure to take advantage of this time. If you don’t remember your teacher’s late day, remember to ask, check the syllabus or Google Classroom.
