Education and Career Guidance

open house 2023

EDspiration

As part of our holistic approach in educating NYJCians on future career and education options, NYJC hosts EDspiration – an annual event that invites speakers from various institutes of higher learning and industries to share about their professions and university courses with the JC2 students. EDspiration caters to two main needs of our students – exploring options for higher education and examining career opportunities.

EDubuzz

The EDubuzz programme is a series of lunchtime talks where representatives from local and overseas institutions like British Council and EducationUSA are invited to share about higher education programmes and advise our students on application procedures to the tertiary institutions.

EDventure

EDspirience

EDventure is an experiential learning platform for students. Through EDventure, students are encouraged to take part in educational journeys to higher learning institutes and participate in workshops conducted by these institutes. Through these activities, students can experience university life and pick up a new skill at the same time. Some of the programmes that our students have participated in include Programming workshops conducted by NUS, Accountancy camps in SMU, Science and Engineering workshops in NTU and Design workshops in SUTD.

EDspirience is an NYJC Work Attachment Programme which allows students to explore and discover their career aspirations through work experience. Many established organisations such as the Singapore Academy of Law and Tan Tock Seng Hospital have partnered the college in this endeavour. Through the work attachment programme, our students learn valuable work ethics and pick up important transferable skills from their workplace supervisors and colleagues.

Service Learning

CCE Project

The Service-Learning (SL) programme in NYJC focuses on developing responsible citizens who are sensitive to the needs of the community, and are pro-active in seeking solutions to the problems of those in need. The programme offers diverse opportunities, catering to our students’ differing levels of ability, interest, and commitment.

All classes and CCA groups are encouraged to initiate a CCE (Character and Citizenship Education) project within their 2 years of study in NYJC. A CCE project usually encompasses more than one of the following elements: Service-Learning, Civic Literacy, and Environmental Issues. The rationale is to deepen students’ understanding of the underlying issues in society and encourage them to think further about what they can do to contribute as an active citizen.

CCE Seminar

Our CCE Seminar “Active Citizens, Giving Hearts” is a yearly event to assist our students to understand pressing social issues and increase their awareness of the platforms available to tackle these issues. A variety of organisations are invited to hold concurrent seminar sessions for our students via the virtual or face-to-face platform. By hearing directly from community leaders and stakeholders, our students can develop a stronger sense of civic responsibility and be inspired to do more for their community.

Community Leadership Programme

The NYJC- Braddell Heights Community Leadership Programme is a joint collaboration between NYJC, Braddell Heights Citizens Consultative Committee (CCC) and South East Community Development Council (SECDC). This is a half-year programme where selected students from JC2 Galileo Programme and JC1 students from the Interact Club will be exposed to various aspects of community work, the roles that SECDC and the community-based organisations within Braddell Heights play in the community.
