TENOCH

IZCOATL

  • He took power at the age of 47
  • Thanks to his knowledge of handling political situations was able to weigh the importance of having help to confront the Tepanecas
  • Tenoch's theocratic rule lasted from 1299 to 1363.
  • For 165 years, while wandering through desert lands, their enemies persecuted them and according to the Codex Mendocino, it was on 1325, when they found an eagle devouring a snake in a cactus.

HUITZILIHUITL

  • Huitzilíhuitl, was the second emperor of Mexico and ruled from 1396 to 1415.
  • Huitzilihuitl transforms the religious ideas incorporating loans from the Toltecs, always considered prestige for Mexica sovereigns.

CHIMALPOPOCA

ACAMAPICHTLI

  • He was born between 1405 and 1408, he was the son of Huitzilíhuitl.
  • During Chimalpopoca's reign, Tenochtitlan seems to have participated in only a handful of conquests.
  • Chimalpopoca was involved in conflicts that caused his death in 1426
  • In 1366 his reign began.
  • First Tlatoani, with him began the Mexica dynasty conquest
  • He died in Tenochtitlan in 1387.

MOCTEZUMA ILHUICAMINA

MOCTEZUMA XOCOYOTZIN

  • Fifth Aztec emperor (1440-1469). Son of Emperor Huitzilihuitl II.
  • Despite his severe and authoritarian character and his inability to provide the empire with an effective administration, Moctezuma knew how to win the appreciation of his habitants and maintain it until his death.
  • When he ascended the throne, Moctezuma Xocoyotzin was 35 years old.
  • The last days of Moctezuma II are those when Hernán Cortés arrived and began his march to the city of Tenochtitlan.

TIZOC

  • Born in 1436, he became the seventh Aztec king. His rule began on October 30, 1481.
  • Tízoc undertook a campaign towards the Gulf coast to subdue peoples who had rebelled

AXAYACATL

AHUIZOTL

  • Ahuizotl was a Mexica ruler who reigned between 1486 and 1502.
  • Ahuitzotl proceeded to bring the Gulf Coast territories into line after their stubborn refusal to pay. Ahuitzotl would go on to win many more. Conquering the central valleys of Oaxaca c. 1494
  • He king died from a blow to the head while he was trying to escape the flood at Tenochtitlan.
  • Born in 1450, he was the grandson of Moctezuma Ilhuicamina.
  • The twelve years of his rule were characterized by a permanent state of war, which gave him his reputation as an excellent military leader.

CUITLAHUAC

  • Cuitláhuac was a fierce Mexica warrior and one of the most admired, feared and respected military leaders in the pre-Hispanic world.
  • born in Iztapalapa during the last quarter of the fifteenth century, probably in 1476.
  • ruled the great Tenochtitlan for 80 days.
  • Cuitláhuac died at the age of 44 from smallpox

CUAUHTEMOC

  • Nació en Tenochtitlán en los últimos años del siglo XV
  • In September 1520, the Aztecs elected Cuauhtémoc as Emperor. The new tlatoani prepared to defend his capital from the counteroffensive of Hernan Cortés
  • On February 28, 1525, Cortés ordered Cuauhtémoc to be interrogated separately and without further evidence, he killed him.
