Idea: playing certain frequencies in your ear during a speaking engagement activates certain brainwaves that promote specific cognitive behaviors that can improve functional communication and increase fluency. Purpose: For IDs to use audio input to hack their communication skills, thoughts and ideas during speaking engagements. Objectives: To examine communication sciences research and apply the findings to communicative interactions.

Music triggers emotion?
Music triggers something! whether verbal or nonverbal
When music strikes a chord
We play songs repeatedly when they pull on our heart strings.
This happens because when the right sound strikes us, it strikes an emotional chord.
Allowing our emotions to influence the environments it hosts, our brain
emotions influence our thoughts?
How the heartbeat influences concious perception
Yes! The heart does influence the brain.
Music increases norepinephrine levels in the brain chemistry which promote attention processing and regulates behavior.
Though we are not aware of our heartbeats, the state of the heart can influence our perception of what's in front of us.
This is because the brain divides its attention between external signals in the environment and internal (emotion) signals within the body.
If the brain is more focused on internal signals such as the heartbeat, it may then be less aware (autopilot) of external signals from the outside world.
These findings are significant because it shows that our concious perception of the world can change within the heartbeat cycle, a rhythmic pattern we don't pay attention too.
Perception changes Behavior?
is it possible for music to influence verbal behavior?
If playing music can influence \nonverbal behaviors,
Yes!

Elements of the heart
Heart, Music, They Work The Same!
Tempo
Rhythm
Heart
Music
Tempo and rhythm are elements of both the music and the heart They coexist, do not work alone, and balance one other. Since they work the same, the tempo and rhythm of a song can replace the heart's current state, to create a subconsious reaction and behavioral change to feelings and thoughts, which influences what you say, and how you say it).
Timing is Everything
It's ALL About Timing
Playing music in your ear during a speaking engagement is like wearing a metronome. It not only monitors how your connecting to your thoughts, but it monitors your speech rate, increasing fluency and free flowing thoughts.
A metronome is a practice tool that produces a steady pulse/beat (like a heart), to help musicians play rhythms accurately
The Language of the bRAIN
The Pressing Question
If we know that playing music in your ear can alter speech production
And it's been proven that playing certain frequencies elicits specific characteristics in our behavior
that the frequencies of songs can alter your state of mind and elicits certain characteristics in your speech like confidence, focus, creative thought?
is it possible that if you play certain frequencies during a speaking situation in your ear
Yes!
Open me!
If you've ever listened to music, only to find yourself deep in thought and not really hearing the music at all, your in a meditative state of mind, even when speaking.

Rhymic Speech Cueing

the role of music in speech and language:
Rhythmic Speech Cueing
When you hear yourself speak, your brain automatically tries to correct the speech by increasing the rate of syllables/words produced. You can speak fluently when you can't hear yourself speak. Speech and Language Therapists use the RSC technique to drown out one's voice.
RSC is direct, auditory input via "background" noise during a speaking situation. It is typically a continuous rhythmic pattern.
Rhythmic speech cueing is a speech rate control technique using auditory rhythm.
Manage your speech
Music to manage your speech
Rhythmic speech cueing reduces speech disfluencies by inducing speech motor changes, improving:
- Fluency
- Articulation rate
- Pause time
- Intellgibility when speaking
- Confidence
RSC is commonly used with patients to reduce:
- Motor Speech Difficulties- Stuttering/ Parkinson's
- Language Difficulties
