Phenomenology

Phenomenology

  • It studies the appearances of things, or things as they appear in our experience, or the ways we experience things, thus the meanings things have in our experience.
  • study of phenomena
    • related to phenomenon, which means an observable fact or event
  • founded by Edmund Husserl

Existentialism

Existentialism

  • founded by Søren Kierkegaard
  • Existentialism is the philosophical study of the human condition, while phenomenology studies how people experience things.
  • It is a philosophical theory or approach which emphasizes the existence of the individual person as a free and responsible agent determining their own development through acts of the will.

Postmodernism

  • It do so by getting rid of concepts of truth. They have ideas of it, but they don’t believe about it the same way most of us do.
  • For them, truth now is simply what works for us or truth is simply which is consistent with other things.

Postmodernism

  • It is characterized by broad skepticism or relativism and a general suspicion of reason.
  • generally questions the basic assumptions of Western philosophy in the modern period.

  • It is founded by Gottlob Frege, Betrand Russel, and G.E. Moore
  • It also states that philosophy should be consistent with the success of modern science.
  • It states that philosophy should apply logical techniques to attain conceptual clarity.
  • It is also called linguistic philosophy

  • Logic is centered in the analysis and construction of arguments
  • Critical Thinking focuses on distinguishing facts and opinions or personal feelings.
  • They serve paths to freedom from half-truths and deception
  • It also includes 2 Basic Types of Reasoning

Fallacies

  • There are many usually commited errors that are considered to be a fallacy; examples being appeal to pity, appeal to ignorance, false cause, hasty generalization, and more.
  • faulty argument, one that is not based on sound reasoning or logic.
  • These can be made on purpose or by mistake.
