INTERACTION: RECEIVING INFORMATION
Interaction is a vital function of living things. It enables us to take information from the world around us and to respond appropriately. It includes the senses organs, the nervous system and the locomotor system.
INTERACTION: RECEIVING INFORMATION
The nervous system interprets this information and decides how to respond I greet him.
Our senses receive information from our surroundings. This is called a stimulus. I see my friend
The locomotor system allows us to carry out those responses I raise my hand to greet
INTERACTION: 5 SENSES
THE FIVE SENSES Senses organs receive information from the environment and send it through the nerves to the brain.
THE SENSE OF SIGHT Our sight tells us the colour, shape and size of objects. Eyes are the sense organs that give us sight. Light enters your eyes and forms and upside-down image on the retina. The optic nerve sends this information to the brain. The brain then turns the image right-side up and shows you what you are seeing.

INTERACTION: 5 SENSES
THE SENSE OF SMELL Air enters your nose through the nostrils when you breathe in. The olfactory nerves transmit the information to the brain.
INTERACTION: 5 SENSES
THE SENSE OF TOUCH When you touch something, sensory nerves in your skin transmit information to the brain about how it feels. They also detect pressure and temperature.
Skin covers the whole body and protects the organs inside. Skin is made up of several layers and constantly renewed.
INTERACTION: 5 SENSES
THE SENSE OF TASTE Your tongue is covered in taste buds which detected different tastes. They send information about the taste to the brain.
Our sense of taste allows us to experience different flavours. The tongue is the taste sense organ. In order to taste the flavour of food, the tongue needs to mix food with saliva.
INTERACTION: PROCESSING INFORMATION
THE NERVOUS SYSTEM The nervous system controls everything you do. It is made up of the brain, the spinal cord and the nervers.
The brain is situated inside the skull. It receives information sent by the sense organs and gives orders about how the body should respond.
Nerves are tiny tubes that run throughout the body. They carry information from the sense organs to the brain and from the brain to the rest of the organs.
INTERACTION: PROCESSING INFORMATION
The cerebrum controls voluntary actions, such as speaking, walking.
locomotor system
THE LOCOMOTOR SYSTEM
The brain sends messages to the locomotor system, which reacts with movement. The locomotor system is made up of the skeleton, joints and muscles.
The bones of the skeleton come together at joints. The bones at joints are connected by ligaments. The skeleton has two functions: to support the body and to protect your internal organs.
THE SKELETON The skeleton is made up of all of the bones in your body. It is divided into three parts. The skull, the torso, and the limbs.

The muscles. There are over 600 muscles in your body. The muscles contract and relax when they respond to messages from the brain. Tendons connect muscles to bones. When you move these muscles, your body moves. Muscles also give your body shape and protect your organs.
