Main JObs:

CONTROLS, COMMUNICATES, AND REGULATES SIGNALS TO HELP THE BODY FUNCTION; RESPONSIBLE FOR MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND BASIC BODY FUNCTIONS

01) Two main parts:

  • cENTRAL nervous system (Brain and spinal cord; Processing/command center)
  • peripheral nervous system (Ganglia and Nerves connected to cns; controls senses, movement, and unconscious processes)

02) Nerve damage:

  • Injured nerves have trouble sending/ receiving signals (Cause weakness/pain)
  • Causes by: Disease, stroke, pressure, Toxic substances, accidental injuries, aging

03) Nerve cells/neurons:

basic unit of the nervous system is a nerve cell or neuron (Different types do different jobs); human brain contains about 100 billion neurons
