Rules to add -ing

1. General rule: we add -ing to the base form of the VP. read - reading 2. When the VP ends in -e, we delete the -e and add -ing.ride - rid- riding 2. When the VP ends in -ie, we change the -ie into -y and add -ing. die - dy - dying3. When the VP has 1 syllable and ends in C + V + C, we double the final C and add -ing.
