3 ARTWORKS - 3 NOTIONS

INVISIBLE PRESENCE. Introduction to Contemporary Art for Teens - and for Older Ones too

1.0: Szentendre, Barcsay Museum, 2018. Curators: Gabriella György and Hajnal Kassai

Three contemporary artworks are the starting point of the interactive exhibition for teens. Art pieces by Csaba Ásztai, Eszter Tóth and Ottó Vincze are connected with three notions: absence, presence and communication. We chose further artworks, which can be related to these topics, from the collection of Ferenczy Museum Center in order to create a full exhibition. In addition, we included some art pieces on loan. The selected works are all interrelated with each other both visually and conceptually.

INVISIBLE PRESENCE. Introduction to Contemporary Art for Teens - and for Older Ones too

2.0: Sepsiszentgyörgy, MAGMA Contemporary Exhibition Space, 2019. Curators: Erika Fám and Gabriella György

The exhibition becomes different in a new exhibition space, since it is co-curated by the museum educator of the given museum. Besides building a professional partnership between the educators and the museums, the method of teaching and interpreting contemporary art can be exchanged easily as well. During the exhibition, the methodology is mastered in practice by playing with teeanagers. Later the museum educator can change and apply and use the game according to their needs at future exhibitions.

NVISIBLE PRESENCE. Introduction to Contemporary Art for Teens - and for Older Ones too

3.0: Balatonfüred, Vaszary Gallery, 2020. Curators: Gabriella György and Orsolya Nyitrai

The most important characteristic of this exhibition project is the visitor-oriented approach. The method builds on the visitor's own world, their emotions and self-confidence; they are invited for a personal adventure in an environment where homeliness and discovery are the guiding ideas.

CARD GAME

Mime.
Check it out in the exhibition.
Give your answer.
Explain.
Don't tell the others what you can see on the card.
Explain to your great-grandmother what the internet is.
Does the same man appear twice in Lajos Csontó’s picture?
What do you first look at on someone's face?
I am faceless.
Check it out in the exhibition.
Does the same man appear twice in Lajos Csontó’s picture?

And why are they both looking at us??

But the most important question is why Lajos Csontó masked himself as Péter Bereznai in an analog and digital way as well.

In order to answer this question, we turn to the artworks in the exhibition space for help.

Why did they change roles? Who initiated it, and why?

Cards inspire talks. They raise fundamental questions about human perception and arts.

Explain to a friendly alien what a chair is used for.
Explain to a hostile alien what art means and why it shouldn't be destroyed.
Explain to a 19th-century person what rap music is like.
How would you explain to a blind man what the colour of water is like?
How would you explain art to a kindergarten child?

ONLINE COLLAGE GAME

We couldn't miss out such gags as Mona Lisa's smile and Van Gogh's ear... Masterpieces of 3000-year-long art history are hidden in this collage game.
The collage game pieces were created by using parts of the portraits included in the exhibition and several other portraits popular and famous in the Hungarian and international art history. The iconic figures of pop culture can be recognised easily.
