Exams in year 11:

You will be doing 1 of the CORE or EXTENDED pathways based on your ability (Decision at year 11 stage) So I will teach all material regardless for now.

You will take 2 exam papers in year 11

There are differences in TIME ALLOWED, MARKS AVAILABLE and TYPES OF QUESTIONS given to you

CORE - awarded grades 1-5 (IGCSE, not EIP grades) EXTENDED - awarded 3-9 (IGCSE, not EIP grades)

How will I be assessed?

Worksheets, Homework

Mini Quizzes

Written Exam papers

IGCSE style, in silence, with paper exams. You need to get used to being in silence.

Practice makes perfectTimed activities in class, in silence or homework tasks

Kahoot!, Quizziz, with lower coefficient (0.2-0.5)

When are my lessons?

Wednesdays 13:15 to 3:05 A214

Fridays 10:30-12:05 A110

AP: Wednesday lunch Time TBC

What about homework?

You will get one homework per week.

What happens if I don't hand in homework in the lesson?

1. You will hand in the same day by 11:59 pm. Parents notified if this is missed. (Pronote) 2. Still no homework or hand in the wrong homework? Detention set with me - 30 minutes for you to do some of your homework in silence. Wednesday AP - regardless of handing in before that day. 3. Miss my detention? I refer you to the head of year - or you sit detention with vie scolaire (Friday afternoon) 1 hour or more

  • Given on a Friday, hand in on a Friday.
  • It is in a separate place on classroom called 'homework'
  • Your head of year will be involved with helping me to enforce you doing homework/detentions.
  • You are now too old for excuses. Get organised.
  • Expect to fail if you don't do homework.

Code of conduct

Well, that all sounds a bit negative, sir...

Rewards

I know it all sounds negative... Those who do good homework will get a encouragement note on pronote 100% hand in on time = small prize per term (6ish weeks) Recommendations to HoY for excellent progress

The stuff before sounds harsh but if you do your homework, you will have no problems.

What is expected of me?

You are here to learn, not to socialise - I pick your seat for a specific reason - don't argue about it

Respect the seating plan

You will not learn and remember content without working hard. You have no time to waste.

Work hard

Miss a lesson? catch it up on classroom, come to AP, send me an email. Be proactive not reactive.

Keep up with lessons and homework

If you are not listening through instructions, explanation, you won't understand how to do the work or how to answer the questions.

listen to instructions and explanations

Targets for the year

What did we do well last year? What could we work on?

I want you to think of a behavioural target for yourself. Even if you were well-behaved, could you benefit from asking more questions? coming to AP or asking me for help via email? what about reviewing content more regularly? What should you set yourself as an academic target to reach? remember to be ambitious but realistic - there would be no point putting your target at 7 each time, when you have never had 7s before... if you havent already done the google form, please click the picture!

My I MAths Login

I will be giving you a password and login details for my Imaths. This is where I will ask you (sometimes) to complete homework, or revise. It is really useful.

+ info

Who is responsible for your login details?

What can you do to help Yourself?

Revise regularly

  • Scientific research says that if you revisit learning from time to time throughout a unit, there is better recall - spaced interval memory

Be Organised

  • Come to lessons equipped, ready and positive.
  • Know when deadlines are so that you can organise your home time accordingly

Communicate!

  • Talk to me if you are struggling - it doesn't have to be in front of everyone - send an email, wait until the end of the lesson, etc.
  • Set up AP time if you need it

Think for yourself

  • Try to think about how ideas apply to others - 'how can I solve this problem?' etc
  • Using YOUR brain will help you remember - there's no use copying, etc.

Be Truthful

  • It makes no sense to lie about homework, revision. It is ultimately YOU who fails from not working.
  • Don't make excuses! You have the responsibility on your learning
