Subject Pronouns

Subject Pronouns replace or rename a proper noun subject to avoid repetition. In English, we often replace someone's name with he or she to avoid repeatedly using the name. The Spanish subject pronouns can be found on the chart to the right.

Types of verbs

In Spanish, verbs are classified into 3 groups:-AR verbs: hablar, bailar, dibujar -ER verbs: comer, beber, leer -IR verbs: vivir, escribir, asistir All verbs, in their infinitive forms, will end in either -AR, -ER, or -IR.

-AR conjugations

The present tense expresses actions that are currently happening right now. To conjugate a verb in any tense, follow these steps:1. remove the ending (-AR, -ER, -IR), the stem will be left 2. add a stem change if applicable (see stem changers section) 3. add new conjugation ending that matches the subject

What is a stem changer?

Stem changing verbs are conjugated the same as regular verbs, but they have a change in their stem in all forms but nosotros and vosotros. There are several changes that could occur, depending on the verb: e -> ie (pensar)e -> i (repetir)o -> ue (poder)u -> ue (jugar) Stem changers are often called boot verbs because all of the forms outside the boot do not have a stem change. (see diagram on right)
