Advantages
1. Fun
Learners enjoy this method because they have fun. It gets them in a good mood!
2. Kinesthetic learners
It is good for kinesthetic learners who are required to be active in the class.
3. It is adaptable
It can be used both in large or small classes. It doesn't matter how many students you have; as long as you are prepared to take the lead, the learners will follow
4. Everyone learns
The physical actions get across the meaning effectively, so in that way all the students are able to comprehend and apply the target language.
5. It doesn't require many things
It is not needed to have a lot of preparation or materials using the TPR. As long as you are aware of what you want to practise, it won't take a lot of time to be ready.
7. Left and right-brained learning
This method involves both left and right-brained learning on students.
6. Young learners
This method is effective with teenagers and young learners.
Disadvantages
1. It can be embarrasing
Students who are not used to participate in these type of activities might find it embarrassing, since there are students who are shy, they wouldn't like to perform something in front of their classmates.
2. It suits just one level
It is only really suitable for beginner levels; it is far more useful at lower levels because the target language lends itself to such activities, but it can successfully be applied at Intermediate and Advanced levels depending on the topic.
3. It can be repetitive
If it is not flexibly used to teach everything, and if used a lot, it would become repetitive.TPR should be combined with other methods since it needs a lot of energy, so that learners do not feel tired of learning the language.
4. It can be ineffective
TPR can be ineffective if the teacher uses it for a long period of time without switching it with other activities that help teach the target language, since it tends to omit narrative, descriptions, and other forms of language.
