Tenses atau bentuk kata kerja yang digunakan di dalam narrative text adalah past tense atau kata kerja masa lampau. Sebagai contoh, kata “ate”, “went”, dan “grew” adalah beberapa kata kerja dalam bentuk lampau. Hal ini terjadi disebabkan cerita biasanya suatu hal yang telah terjadi di masa lampau.

He invited the man to his palace. At the palace, a young man wearing a leafy crown appeared. He was looking for the elderly man. The elderly man said to Midas, “This is Dionysus, he is a god.”
