New Student Orientation Info
Greetings Old Colony Community:
If you like the heat, this summer was for you. Welcome to the 2022-2023 Principal’s Newsletter. I am very excited to start this new school year with a return to normalcy and a renewed outlook on teaching and learning starting with a great staff and student body. We need to take care of ourselves as parents and staff to best serve our students. I will steal a quote from a workshop this summer that stated we need to take care of the adults who are taking care of the kids. How true is this? As you enjoy the rest of the summer, please think of what we can do for you to make this year successful and healthy.
We are looking forward to our New Student Orientation on August 23rd and 24th when we welcome in the Class of 2026 and 11 new members of the Class of 2025. August 24th will feature a program for parents of incoming new students. Once again we had a very busy summer around campus. Our summer programs were well attended, planning for the New Student Orientation is in full swing, and the administrative team was busy attending conferences to get ready for the new school year.
As always, the facility is in incredible shape for the opening of school. Our maintenance, grounds and custodial staff work especially hard to provide us with a facility that is incredibly conducive to teaching and learning. Mr. Souza and his staff deserve high praise for their work. They had to overcome working a man down for much of the summer which is an even greater testament to their efforts and work ethic.
It has been a very busy summer of interviewing for open assignments. There will be many new faces around campus this year. We will have two new School Adjustment Counselors. We will have a new Guidance Counselor, two new Special Education teachers, a new Science teacher, a new Graphics instructor, a new Math teacher, a new ELA teacher, a new Library Media Specialist and a new Health/PE teacher. Mr. Riley and Mr. Soucy will be returning in a full time capacity in their respective programs. We also want to welcome 3 new Para-professionals. We will welcome these new staff members on August 25th at the New Staff Orientation from 8:00-12:00.
The administrative team will be holding a retreat this week to develop their goals for the year, review progress related to our current district improvement plan, construct our professional development for the year, learn from each other and hopefully develop a back to school plan that will be exciting for everyone.
It is hard to believe this will be my fifth year as OC Principal. I can’t wait to see all the old staff (returning staff), new staff and students in a couple short weeks. I am confident we will work as a team as always to deliver the best educational experience we can for our students. Enjoy the rest of your time off. Staff will report on August 29th at 8:00 am. The first day for students is August 30th.
Remember, “Laugh, Smile and Have Fun. It’s Contagious.”
Be Well,
Mike

The Student Advisory Committee represents the student voices at OC. Each month the committee will meet with Mr. Parker to go over topics, requests, and ideas the students have. All of this is then presented to our School Committee members at their monthly School Committee meetings.
This committee is what OC is all about; hearing from our students and making sure they are having the best possible school experience. We encourage students to sign up for this committee and be an active part of our OC community.
