What do you think is the kindest way to respond to these situations? Find out!

QUIZ

question 1/5

You watch a TikTok video and you notice that somebody is commenting on the appearance of the person who shared the video, calling them "fat".

You continue scrolling to the next video

You post a mean comment and laugh about it

You post an encouraging comment and support others who did the same

next

YAY!

QUIZ

Explanation:That is indeed a kind way to react in such a situation! When you notice a cyberbullying situation don't just pass by and ignore it, be there for those who were harmed.

question 2/5

You play a video game online in a group with people you do not know. At one point you make a mistake and the whole group has to start again. One of the group members starts insulting you in the chat.

You attack them back and insult them as well

You ignore the bully, report and/or block them

You quit the game and take it personally

QUIZ

NEXT

YAY!

QUIZ

Explanation:That is indeed the easiest way to react in such a situation. Be the bigger person and ignore such behaviour, while also making sure you report them for abusive behaviour through the in-game system and then block them. And then never let it affect you emotionally.

QUESTION 3/5

You are in a bus with your colleagues and you notice that one of them takes an embarassing photo of another colleague while they are sleeping, sharing it on the joint WhatsApp group. Almost everybody starts laughing, but the affected colleague feels very bad.

You comment on the WhatsApp group defending the affected colleague and go to offer them emotional support

You join in and laugh as well

You choose to do nothing out of fear of also being embarassed

QUIZ

NEXT

YAY!

QUIZ

Explanation:That is indeed a small step through which you can stop such future behaviour! Make sure you give the required space to the affected colleague, making yourself available to be there to help, but without pushing it. Also make sure you respond in a kind way on the WhatsApp group and not insult your colleagues, triggering a conflict cycle.

QUESTION 4/5

You notice that one of your friends is regularly bullying other colleagues online. When you asked about it, they said they're just having some fun and they're not doing any real harm as it's just online messaging after all. What do you do?

You think it is not your business and that there is nothing you can do

You try to confront and explain to your friend the consequences of their actions

You join in and bully your colleagues together

QUIZ

NEXT

YAY!

QUIZ

Explanation:Maybe your friend is not aware that they are actually harming others, so it can be good to confront them and have a serious conversation about it. You can also try asking them how would they feel if somebody else would be doing that to them. If your friend keeps bullying others, maybe you can reconsider your friendship with them.

QUESTION 5/5

You share something on social media and a person you know writes a very aggressive comment on a social issue, accussing you of being an extremist because of your opinions.

You block your friend and never talk to them again

QUIZ

You start a personal chat or call the person to find out their perspective and to share with them your own

You ignore them and report / delete their comment

You accuse them back of having extremist views as well

NEXT

YAY!

QUIZ

Explanation:At least you're trying! If it works, maybe you will discover that you both have a point and the truth is somewhere in the middle. If it doesn't, you don't have to agree and you can agree to respect each other's opinions in the future without insults. If nothing works, then indeed maybe you should block them and not invest time and energy in this direction.

NEXT

YAY!

QUIZ

Explanation:Sometimes it can be best to simply not invest any energy in such an event. Make sure you delete or report the comment if it is offensive and then you can move on. If the person keeps commenting, you can block them and report their profile as well.

Oooops!Maybe that is not the best way to react in this situation? Go back and see if there is any other solution to respond in a kinder way!

QUIZ

Oooops!Maybe that is not the best way to react in this situation. Never take such an attack personally, it has nothing to do with you as a person. Always remember that it is just a game at the end of the day, where you are supposed to have fun. Block and report anyone who stands in your way and do not fuel their anger.

You have now (re)discovered various ways of being kind online! What is your favourite or what would you add yourself? Share on your own social media channels with the hashtag #KindOnline!

Ignore - Report - Block (IRB Method)

Ignore the bully and do not give them the attention they seekReport their behaviour to the platform administrator or in-game systemBlock them so they cannot contact you again

Keep Calm: You are ok, you are enough

Try to maintain your calm when you notice the bullying situation and take a moment to breathe before you react. Do not take it personally and try to not let it affect who you are. This is a temporary moment that will soon pass and it should not define you. Don't let it become a negative experience with longer-term consequences.

Talk about it

If you feel negative about what happened, share your experience with a trusted friend or with a parent. Do not be afraid of being embarassed, there is nothing to be shy about.

Do not answer or retaliate

Usually the bullies want to see your reactions and they crave the attention they receive this way. They can also enjoy seeing you being affected by their behaviour. DO NOT give them this satisfaction. Ignoring them will annoy them much more. Plus, if you retaliate you risk starting a cycle of insults and hatred in both directions.

Know it's not your fault

Nobody deserves to be bullied no matter what they did or didn't do. The only fault lies with the bully, but make sure you do not retaliate and commit bullying yourself out of anger as well.

Sometimes the bully is hiding a suffering

We never know what others are going through. But often people who engage in bullying are suffering themselves and bullying is simply a way through which they channel their anger, frustration or other negative emotions. Do not take it personally. Be kind, smile and try being compassionate.

Congratulations!

Don't be a bystander

If you notice someone being bullied, don't chose the easy option of ignoring and walking away. This way you just allow it to happen and expand. Instead, either confront the bully online or offer support to the victim.

Confront the cyberbully

In a respectful way, tell the cyberbully to stop and defend the person who was bullied. Nobody deserves to be treated in such a way no matter what they did. Be a protector and make sure you don't let such situations pass by, as you never know how much someone can actually get hurt behind the screen. You can also report the bully yourself through the platform or in-game system.

Support the person who was bullied

Send a quick message to the person who was bullied and let them know you support them and do not agree with the bully. This can sometimes mean a lot for that person, at very little time cost for you.

Report the bully

Make sure you report the bully to the platform / group administrator / in-game system. In most cases online harrassment is not allowed and is a breach of the community or game rules.

Avoid online "wars" and "drama"

When you see a cyberbullying situation try to make sure it is solved and that the victim is offered support, but do not transform it into a crusade against the bully. Try to not launch yourself into lengthy online conflicts and emotional discussions which can lead to both you and others being hurt emotionally. Do what you can and move on.

Congratulations!
