what is a political party

A political party is a group of people who come together to contest elections and hold power in the government. They agree on some policies and programmes for the society with a view to promote the collective good.

The all India Trinamool Congress was launched on 1998 under the leadership of Mamta Banerjee. It was recognised as a national party in 2016 and the party's symbol is flowers and grass. Committed to secularism and federalism it has been in power in West Bengal since 2011. The party also has a presence in Arunachal pradesh, Manipur and Tripura. In the General Elections held in 2019 it got 4.07% votes and won 22 seats making it the 4th largest party in the Lol Sabha.

1. Bahujan Samaj Party was formed in 1984 under Kanshi Ram’s leadership. 2. He was of the Chamar community which is a Dalit community classified under the Scheduled Castes. 3. Aim is to empower the religious minorities, Dalits, OBCs and adivasis. 4. Follows the teachings of BR Ambedkar, Sahu Maharaj etc. 5. Main base is in UP with substantial presence in MP, Delhi, Punjab among other states. 6. Secured 10 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
