5 MAY 2024

Visit in English through the city of Motril by the students of 1ºGAT

In the next point talked about the Parque de las Américas, which was built in 1987 and opened to the public in 1990. He mentioned the main attraction of the park, which is the geyser located at the end of a small stream that begins at the Motril Tourist Office. He also mentioned the succulent and cactus museum, which houses more than 200 different species, and the lakeside skatepark and platform for outdoor concerts and events.

The day started on IES to La Alcoholera, originally built as a concentration camp during the civil war, and is now being used for industrial purposes. It consists of three buildings connected to sugar factories (San Jose, La Alcoholera, and Fabriquilla). Although initially lacking architectural significance, these buildings are now recognized for their heritage value. In 2010, a renovation was carried out to connect the esplanades with the Parque de los Pueblos de Américas.

One partner spoke about the Main Church of the Incarnation, built between 1510 and 1514 on the site of the ancient Alixara mosque. The church was damaged in 1938 due to an explosion, but was rebuilt, maintaining part of its original design.

Finally, the central area of the coastal town was visited, there the companions will explain shops and restaurants where you can enjoy the typical Granada gastronomy, the ''tapas'', reviewing the Plaza de las Palmeras, characterized and named for having many plants of this type. We also visited the Virgen del Valle alley, where we found an altar in honor of said virgin belonging to the brotherhood of Veracruz.

European Day of Languages; on September 26th, the European Day of Languages is celebrated

Third-year ESO students celebrated the European Day of Languages. They have designed, painted and cut out several bookmarks with their favorite stories. On the back, they have included the name of the celebration.

2024: Languages for Peace

Drawing has joined languages in this celebration.

Linguistic diversity is a tool for achieving greater intercultural understanding and a key element in the rich cultural heritage of our continent.

Our students have chosen content from different trends...

... and have practiced lettering on "B side" of their reading points

The design had to match the book where this reading tool was going to be used. Some people have even laminated it!

Draw it, erase it, color it, cut it out... read it !!An activity that celebrates linguistic diversity and supports plans to promote reading.

OUR Students Dive Deep into the Wonders of the BIOLOGICAL Kingdoms

The highlight of the project came when a group of visiting students from Bulgaria arrived at the school. Our youth proudly featured their baby brine shrimps, explaining the details of the creatures' morphology and habits. "It was such a rewarding experience to share our findings with the Bulgarian students", they commented amongst themselves. "We're excited to have had the opportunity to dive deep into the living kingdoms and reveal the wonders of these incredible organisms".

First-year ESO students have been embarking on an extensive project exploring the major kingdoms of life. As part of their "Biobook" activity, these young scientists have been meticulously studying the characteristics, morphology, and examples of each biological realm. "This has been an incredibly insightful and hands-on experience for our students", remarked their biology teacher. "Not only have they discovered the diversity of life on our planet, but they've also had the chance to get up-close and personal with some fascinating creatures". One of the focal points of their studies was the world of crustaceans, with a particular emphasis on the curious Artemia salina, commonly known as brine shrimp or sea monkeys. Students carefully followed a breeding protocol, observing the transformation from tiny nauplius larvae to the adult "prehistoric dragons". "It was amazing to see how different the baby brine shrimp looked compared to the grown-ups," said the pupils. "They almost looked like little aliens with their single eye!". The students also noted the brine shrimp's positive phototropism, or attraction to light, as they tended to congregate around the aquarium's illumination.

"It was one of the best days of the term"

On the 9th May 2024, the students of 1ºA, enjoyed an amazing game in the Moma Square. This gimkhana was organazed by the junior ambassadors , who,at the sametime were the ones who had to give us the clues to find the Qrs. The Qrs had questions about Europe, although some didn't work; having got to improvise with other questions. Also, the students had to do some challenges one per Qr. So, you couldn't continue till you showed them by photos, vídeos,... ; obviously, they were valued.

THE SUGAR FACTORY AND MUNICIPAL ARCHIVE OF MOTRIL

On the May 10th, 2024, the fourth-graders of our “Giner de los ríos” high school went to visit the sugar factory of Motril to learn something about its history, with a little variety from school lessons. At first, the classes were divided into two groups, each of which then visited different areas of the museum separately. My group first went into the municipal archive, where a woman taught us about the sugar’s history based on all the documents kept in that archive. We learned where the sugar originated, how it came to Motril and eventually how it nowadays is found over the whole planet.

We could ask questions and it was very interesting. In the end, we even had a chance to look at the oldest book preserved in this archive, and we were all fascinated by its letter and its impressive state.

With the help of examples, re-enactments and work equipment, that had remained, the history was brought to life, and you understood much better how it all had worked. The tour ended with another short video, again in a very fittingly decorated area. We learnt a lot about the history of sugar, and it was very impressive.

When her gripping talk was over, the two groups took turns and we could now visit the museum, where another woman guided us through the different parts of the exhibition. We started at the entrance with a little introduction and then watched a short film to understand better what will expect us. After that, we got a guided tour through the whole museum, and I really liked it a lot. The different compartments were incredibly well coordinated with the theme in terms of decoration, and you felt like you were travelling back in time. For example, the mill press trains, which were running while the woman explained how the sugar was being fabricated back then.

After about two hours, the little excursion was unfortunately already over, but we all enjoyed it very much and thought it was great to have been able to experience a change from the school lessons in this form. Nuria Tonini 4º C1
