Materials List
Engineering Design - Digital Prototype
4. Drag a breadboard to the workspace. 5. Place an LED across two rows of a column. 6. Place the photoresistor across two different rows of a column.
1. Launch and log into Tinkercad® (pages 15-16). 2. Start a new Circuits project. 3. Drag an UNO board to the workspace
Connect with jumper wires the following: • the five volt (5v) pin to the anode(+) column • digital pin eight (8) to the same row as the anode(+) lead of the LED. • a ground (GND) pin on the UNO board to the cathode(-) column on the breadboard. • the anode(+) row to the row with the open lead of the photoresistor • analog pin A3 to the same row shared by the 100 ohm resistor and the lead of the photoresistor. • the cathode(-) row to the row with the other lead from the 100 Ohm resistor.
Coding - Digital Prototype
Enter the code in Tinkercad® to match the code on this page. Start the Simulation. Click on the photoresistor, change the light settings and observe the digital prototype.
Engineering Design - Project Build
• Place an LED across two rows of a column on the breadboard. • Place the photoresistor across two different rows of a column
• Place a 220 Ohm resistor on the breadboard to connect the cathode(-) column and the row that has the cathode(-) lead of the LED. • Place a 100 Ohm resistor on the breadboard to connect one lead of the photoresistor to an open row in the same column.
Launch the Arduino® IDE software (pages 11-13) to make sure the board is communicating with the computer. Go to the Tools menu and verify that the correct board is selected from the Board Manager menu. If not then select the correct board from the options listed. Then confirm that the right Port is selected. If not then select the port that lists the UNO board from the options listed.
Coding - Project Build
Either copy and paste the code from the Tinkercad® prototype or type the code from page 130 into the Arduino® IDE software (pages 11-13). Save the sketch (rename as needed). Verify the sketch.
