So cool. It's an intertidal pool!
Answer the questions and become a master connoisseur of rocky intertidal zones.

What is this quizz about?
Tides determine the rhythm of life cycles and behaviors of many living things, marine and terrestrial. In the rocky intertidal zones it is easy to observe very different species. Some live longer in the water, while others may live several hours out of the water during low tide. Unfortunately, life in the intertidal zone and its habitats is threatened by human activities such as climate change, pollution, and fishing. Your mission is to increase knowledge about intertidal rocky zones in order to protct them,. You will put yourself to the test in search of the secrets of these areas. Let's get started...

DINAMICS Intertidal Rocky Zones. What are they?
find out
BEACH
I can find a rocky intertidal zone in the:
BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN
LAKE
CORRECT!
Intertidal zones are coastal areas that lie underwater at high tide and above water level at low tide. Tides are felt at the bottom of the ocean or in rivers. so rocky intertidal zones can be found in beaches.
NEXT
MOON & SUN
What influences the tides?
RAIN
EARTHQUAKES
CORRECT!
Tides are the sum of effects caused by the gravitational attraction of the Moon and the Sun.
next
ARE MANY ANIMALS ON THE COAST
Spring tides occur when
THE SEA IS ROUGH
THERE IS FULL MOON OR NEW MOON
correCt!
When there is a full moon or new moon, the force of attraction of the moon and sun on the earth is strongest. In these phases the ocean water reaches its highest heights (spring high tides).

Congratulations. You overcame the 1st challenge.

I am an echinoderm. Who am I?
Sea cucumber

corretc!
The image shows the underside of a starfish. What you see are the starfish's "feet," which are called tube feet,

All algae are green?
Yes
No
correct!
Not all algae are green. The colours are a reflection of different chloroplast pigments, such as chlorophylls, carotenoids, and phycobiliproteins. Depending on the pigments, algae can belong to three groups: Green, Red, and Brown.
NEXT
ARE WE RELATIVES?
Yes
No
correct!
The pictures show four very different animals, but they all belong to the same group. The group of crustaceans.

ADAPTATIONS What do I do to survive?
find out
The sun is very intense.
What do I do?
Go to a deeper puddle
Look for a place with shade
Get a hat
Nothing
correct!
Sea urchins are sensitive to light and heat. Therefore, when the tide is low, they "use" small stones or shells to protect their anus.
NEXT
It is low tide and I'm out of water.
What do I do?
Close myself
Change location
Change color
Nothing
correct!
During low tide, anemones there are above water close up to protect themselves from the heat of the sun. This way they avoid losing water and becoming dehydrated.
NEXT
I am an algae of the species Porphyra sp. In what condition am I?
Live at low tide
Live at high tide
Dead at low tide
Dead at high tide
correct!
During low tide, this algae loses almost all the water inside, but it remains alive. During high tide ir gest hydrated again.
NEXT
incorrect!
Whoa! You stepped in a puddle. Dry your feet and keep moving forward.
TRY AGAIN
Congratulations. You overcame your 3rd challenge.
End your path.

COMPLETE SENTENCE
I saw a lot of mussels at the beach.I take home as many as I want.
Cannot
Can
correct!
In some countries a license is required to harvest bivalves and there is a limit on the amount per person, as well as a minimum catch size. These rules are set to guarantee the sustainability of the species.

With climate change, ocean's water is becoming
warmer
colder
correct!
The water in the ocean is getting warmer, that is, with a higher temperature. This is because of the increase of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, mainly due to the use of fossil fuels. This increase in atmospheric gas concentration causes changes in the Earth's climate that we call Climate Change.

Is there anything wrong in this image
yes
no
correct!
In this picture, besides algae you can also find pieces of plastic. Marine debris is a threat to the health of the oceans. Most of this litter comes from land-based activities.

Not at all! Think a little harder. How do you think humans are really affecting the ocean?

You have found your way to the rocky intertidal zone. Get your feet wet, Look for some species and try to identify them. But don't forget! Don't take any live species home with you. And don't leave trash behind.
