What is Google Workplace for Education?

Google Workplace for Education is a mobile and desktop friendly LMS (learning management system) like system called Google Classroom. Google Classroom is an online learning space that allows teachers to connect to their students by posting assignments, material, announcements, and assessments. Not only does Google Classroom support the teacher, it offers students the possibilty to connect to their learning digitally and from anywhere. Google offers an "offline" ability where users can still see information without being connected to the internet. With the advanced versions of Google Workplace, security controls and more formal versions of the connected applications (ex: Google Docs, Google Slides, and Google Meets) are available for the student and teacher.

What Would it Cost The School District?

Google offers liscenses for districts and businesses in order to get full functioning:

The basic version of Google Workplace for Education is free for all Google users. However, there are different upgrade options that enhance the experience of the Classroom platform and associated applications. For example: (Information found at edu.google.com)

• "Google Workplace for Educational Standard"
• CAD $4/student/year
• One staff license free for every four students.
• Advanced security
• "Teaching and Learning Upgrade"
• CAD $5.25/license/year
• Strictly for teachers
• Allows for large audiences for Google Meets and zero time limits, and breakout rooms.
• Options to check for plagiarism (unlimited)
• Google Workspace for Education Plus
• Allows for new apps, normally unavailable to the free users, unlimited video time, priority response from Google specialists.

How to Use Google Classroom?

Watch the video to see how to create a class in Google Classroom. Google Classroom uses some of their collaborative applications to support the classroom abilities. For example, Google Docs and Google Slides is a key way to provide assignments, material, or images. Other apps that are connected to the Google Workplace for Education are Google Drawings, Google Sites, Google Sheets, and Google Meets.
