“Liberty Equality Fraternity”

As a preamble :

What are the values of the French Republic?

The values expressed by the motto of the French republic and recognized as human rights by the declaration of 26th August 1789 are liberty, equality, fraternity. These values are completed by the principle of secularism. Liberty is the crucial value which turns subjects into citizens. Equality gives the right of all citizens to be equal before the law.Fraternity involves tolerance and mutual respect for differences, thus contributing to peace.

Video Contest: Citizenship Awareness Prize 2017, Freedom of speech

Make a video on what freedom of speech is. Contest intended for middle-school and high-school students. The class that wins can have a guided tour of the film library and the other classes win theatre tickets.

Resistance and Deportation National Competition

School contest based on teaching the history of resistance and deportation:

open to the last year students of middle school and to the students of high school in France and French schools abroad.

This contest is thus part of citizenship education approach and it’s an essential part of the student’s road to becoming a good citizen.

Freedom Prize

Organized by the Normandy region and implemented by the international institute for human rights and peace, in partnership with the school authorities of Normandy and the Canopé network, the Freedom Prize is a tribute to those who fought for freedom and continue fighting for it.

This competition is for youths in the whole world who each year, choose a person or an organization involved in an exemplary fight for freedom.

The flame of equality contest

Open to primary schools, middle schools and high schools.

The three winning classes are invited to the national award ceremony.

No particular form required (songs, testimonies, theatre…)

Liberty, equality, gender diversity prize

  • Competition for establishments (secondary schools, high schools, vocational high schools and agricultural high schools)
  • The candidates get involved in the fight against stereotypes and to promote diversity and equality between genders through tangible action projects.
  • Each winning establishment will receive a prize from the Regional Delegation for Women’s rights and Gender Equality.

Here is a quick timeline of the main LGBTQIA+ events that took place in France: - June 1977: First Gay Pride in Paris- August 1982: decriminalisation of homosexuality - May 2013: Marriage for all - June 2021: Assisted Reproductive Technology for all

“Let’s discover our constitution” contest

This contest allows students to understand thanks to a reflection and collective work the main principles our republic is based on. It is organized by the ministry of education and the Constitutional Council.
