  • extremely high body temperature
  • hot , dry skin
  • increased heart and respiration rate
  • throbbing headache , nausea or vomiting
  • weakness , fainting or dizziness
  • muscle cramps
  • dark colour urine
  • confused , hostile or seemingly intoxicated behaviour
  • pale or bluish skin colour
  • seizures or unconsciousness

how to manage heat stress

  • Get medical aid
  • move to air-conditioned environment or at least a cool , shaded area
  • loosen or remove unnecessary clothing
  • drink plenty of cool water
  • fan and spray with cool water

how to protect yourself from heat stres

- stay fit - avoid working in hot areas and in full sun - take frequents break - use sunblock with at least SPF 15 and reapply every two hours - cover up with long-sleeve shirt - increase fluid intake - avoid alcohol and excessive caffeine

how to protect workers from heat stress

- train workers in heat stress awareness and first aid - provide drinking water - provide rest breaks and air conditioned rest areas - post urine colour chart in washrooms to raise awareness about hydration - encourage workers to stay fit - indoors , provide fans or air movement - use machines to reduce physicals demands of working

conclusion

the increasing heat exposure due to local climate changes is likely to create occupational health risks and to have a significant impact on the productivity of many workers , unless effective preventive measures 'adaptation' reducing the occupational heat stress are imlpemented
