First conditional for Advice
The first conditional is used to talk about something that will probably happen or is likelyto happen in the future. It can also be used to give advice.
Let's remember the use of the first conditional
In this type 1 first conditional, the simple present tense is used in the if-clause, and the tense in the main clause is the simple future tense.
We can turn the two clauses the other way round so that their positions are reversed as follow:
First Conditional for advice
We can use the first conditional with modal verbs to give advice. We use the modal verbs in the main clause instead of will.
Examples:
- If you want to pass, you should study harder.
- If you have a headache, you shouldn't sit in the sun.
- We ought to tell someone if he's cheating.
- If you want to improve, you could practice more.
- You must get more sleep if you're always tired.
