Introduction
Sexuality is a natural part of adolescence, though it doesn't necessarily mean beginning sexual activity. Any sexual involvement should be by mutual consent.
Safe sex
Safe sex is sexual contact that can protect the couple from getting sexual transmitted diseases (STDs) and unplanned pregnancy. Responsible people prefer safe sex as they care about each other's pleasure and health.
What is STD (Sexually Transmitted Diseases?
It is advisable that both partners be screened for STDs before becoming sexually active, and that they share the test results with each other. Remember that some of these diseases do not show any early symptoms or visible signs of infection.
MA
Besides abstinence from sex, condoms provide the best protection against STDs when used correctly. Condoms act as a barrier between the skins, keeping one partner's fluids from getting on or into the other's.
Remember
Make sure the condom has not passed its expiration date and do not keep condoms in warm areas as they can be damaged. Never reuse a condom. If extra lubricant is needed, use only water-based lubricants as other lubricants can damage the condom.

About Contraception
Types of Contraceptions
1. Hormonal Methods of Birth Control 2. Barrier Methods of Birth Control 3. Rhythm Method of Natural Planning Method 4. Permanent Contraceptive Method 5. Emergency Contraception
What do you know about contraceptive methods?
Hormonal Methods of Birth Control
Hormonal methods of birth control use hormones to stop eggs from being released from the ovaries, thicken the cervical mucus to prevent sperms from entering the uterus and thin the lining of uterus to prevent implantation of fertilized egg. These include the oral contraceptive pills, contraceptive patches, vaginal contraceptive rings, contraceptive injections and hormonal IUD.
MA
Barrier Methods of Birth Control
Barrier methods include condoms (male and female), cervical caps, diaphragms and sponges. They stop sperms from entering the uterus. These methods if used correctly can be every effective. They have fewer side effects compared to hormonal methods.
MA
Rhythm method or natural family planning method
Rhythm method or natural family planning method is avoiding sex at certain time of a month when the woman is fertile that is when her egg is available for fertilization. The woman has to monitor her cervical mucus changes, body temperature changes and menstrual cycle to help determine when she is most likely to be fertile each month.
MA
Permanent Contraceptive Method
Permanent contraceptive methods give a lasting protection against pregnancy and they involve surgical procedures. In women, tubal ligation is done to prevent an egg from passing down the Fallopian tubes. In men, vasectomy is carried out where tubes are cut to stop sperms from passing from the testes to the penis.
MA
Emergency Contraception
The last method is an emergency contraception as it prevents pregnancy after intercourse occurred. It is also known as the 'morning-after pill'. It is a hormonal method which delays or prevents ovulation for that menstrual cycle.
MA
Summary
All contraceptive methods are effective when used correctly and consistently. However, only condoms can provide protection against STDs. It is the best to restrain ourselves from having sex if we are not ready. We can control our sexual desires by avoiding pornographic materials and masturbation, engaging in sports and outdoor activities, abstaining from alcohol and drugs, and avoiding being alone with a member of the opposite sex.
