The Rainforest
Is it Important?
Meet me in the Jungle!
"Forests... Are in Fact-
the world's air-conditioning system-the very lungs of the planet-and help to store the largest body of freshwater on the planet ... In simple terms, the rainforests, which encircle the world, are our very life-support system-and we are on the verge of switching it off."

The Importance
Why It Matters
Without it: air and water pollution, soil erosion, malaria epidemics, and extinction of plants and animals.
Rainforests help stabilize the world's climate through the absorption of carbon dioxide
Interestingly, in the Amazon rainforest, 50-80% of the moisture remains in the ecosystem's water cycle
Moisture generated by the rainforests travel around every part of the world
Rainforests help maintain the water cycle, as well as protecting food, they prohibit droughts and help soil erosion
When the rainforest trees are cut down or burned, the carbon dioxide gas is released back in the atmosphere
