As of the end of 2021, there are currently 28 films and 6 television shows in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) (that are produced exclusively by Marvel Studios)The first movie came out in 2008 and the most recent movie premiered in May 2022 The films and television shows come out in what are called ‘phases’ There are some television shows/films that feature Marvel characters that are NOT part of the MCU (more on that later, yes, it’s confusing)

WHat is the marvel cinematic universe?

The Marvel Cinematic Universeis a collection of movies and television series that tell a singular narrative related to Marvel characters, settings and stories. The MCU is a product from Disney and Marvel that brings us heroes from Black Panther and Doctor Strange to Spider-Man and Iron Man.

WHAT IS A PHASE IN THE MCU?

Because there’s so many projects in the MCU, they have separated them out into phases Phases are sections/groups of projects which have overarching storylines There are currently FOUR phases of the MCU, and the fourth one just started Phase 1-3 is called the ‘Infinity Saga’, which is the biggest overarching storyline so far

Interesting facts about The MCU

The high-tech African nation of Wakanda was notably mentioned in Avengers: Age of Ultron, getting fans excited for a potential Black Panther years before it was actually released. However, eagle-eyed fans would have noticed that this was not Wakanda’s first appearance in the MCU—it was actually seen as a hotspot on Nick Fury’s map in Iron Man 2—a whopping eight years before Black Panther hit theatres.

Avengers Endgame has been listed as one of the most expensive films ever made. On top of an estimated budget of $356 million, more than $200 million was spent on the marketing campaign for this film. Frankly, we’re surprised it needed that big of a marketing campaign after all the hype that was already built up by the end of Avengers: Infinity War.

In the Guardians of the Galaxy films, Groot is well known for his limited vocabulary.He is only able to say the phrase “I am Groot,” or sometimes very similar variations of the phrase. However, there are some people who know exactly what he is saying. Writer/director James Gunn also writes a “Groot-edition” script for voice actor Vin Diesel, which reveals what all of Groot’s lines actually mean. This helps Diesel give each line the proper cadence and depth.

Vibranium is a rare–and fictional–metal that can only be found in Wakanda. It’s what was used to make Captain America’s shield and Black Panther’s suit.

How do I go about watching 5000+ minutes of content?

1) The timeline methodWatch the movies as they happened in the MCU timeline 2) The release date method Watch the movies as they were released by Marvel Studios 3) The random method This is where you watch random movies at random times and I strongly oppose this 4) The stand-alone method This option is for our non-committal friends, the ones who will only watch a couple of movies.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe currently stands at 34 different titles, with many more on the way. Be prepared, this is not a binge-watch to take lightly. Approximately the total of all the above runtimes adds up to be: 5,567 minutes. That's about 93 hours of Marvel movies and TV series to watch.

What else do I need to know?

Most movies have a mid-credit and end credit scene so watch until the VERY end (depending on which method you’re doing)Currently, the existing X-Men, Deadpool, and Fantastic Four franchise are NOT officially part of the MCU You will become emotionally invested and will cry multiple times while watching and that is okay
