What do you know Lighthouse of Alexandria ?
What was the purpose ?
Its purpose was to guide the sailors. Thanks to its light, it was could seen from 70 km away. Sailors have not had any problems finding their way through this lighthouse for many years.
The lighthouse was severely damaged by three earthquakes between 956 and 1323 AD and became an abandoned ruin.
Where and how was the Lighthouse?
It was a lighthouse built by the Greek Ptolemaic Kingdom of Ancient Egypt. It has been estimated to have been at least 100 metres. It was one of the tallest man-made structures in the world.
This work is recognized as the best known drawing of the Alexandria lighthouse. This draw made by archaeologist Hermann Thiersch.
