EXPLANATION

Anglicanism is a Christian religious doctrine derived from Catholicism, which began in England during the 16th century. Its founder was King Henry VIII (1509-47), who, in the context of the Protestant Reformation, separated England from the authority of the Roman Church, for political and personal reasons. Today, this religion is known as the "Anglican Communion". It brings together some 90 million faithful, most of them in Great Britain and the rest in countries that were British colonies, such as Australia, Canada, South Africa or New Zealand.

ORIGIN

In 1517, the German monk and theologian Martin Luther criticized various practices of the Catholic Church, including the sale of indulgences and the accumulation of material goods. His preaching in favor of a return to the values of primitive Christianity and against the authority of the Pope gave rise to Protestantism, a religious movement that in a short time spread throughout much of northern Europe. In this context, King Henry VIII asked Pope Clement VII to annul his marriage to his first wife, with whom he had not been able to have a male heir. As the Pope refused, in 1534 Henry VIII sanctioned the Act of Supremacy, by which he self-proclaimed the highest authority of the Church of England. In this way, he caused the rupture with the Catholic Church, after which he divorced and married Ana Boleyn.

DOCTRINE

The doctrine of the Anglican Church is based on the belief in one God and three elements: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. They believe that man's decision to reject the eternal God and to live by His standards can lead to a rupture in the relationship and that God the Son lived and died in order to leave a model to follow in seeking reconciliation with God. They consider the Bible to be of utmost importance in the life of the Christian and that in them all that is needed to achieve salvation can be found. In their doctrine, members of the church can come to God through baptism and Holy Communion is celebrated which is also known as the Eucharist. They accept the main creeds of the Christian faith and their fundamental beliefs are contained in the catechism.
