Assignment 2: Analysis and Scoping
Scoping plan to support the design and development of Reading Lists Online (RLO)* Training for academics and academic support staff
Submitted by Kerry Langton
Methodology
To plan, develop and create an effective learning experience, learning objectives and goals have to be clearly outlined. The established 1950’s ADDIE model of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation is best suited to this assignment and my level of knowledge and experience.
The Who of Learning
My analysis involved gathering quantitative data from the VLE and qualitative data via interviews with Academic Engagement Team members, academics and support staff. This data would inform the learning objectives and enable me to create learner personas that are reliable and realistic representations of my audience. Referering to these personas throughout the design and evaluation process will ensure that the learning objectives and outcomes are learner-centred, meeting the needs of all training participants.
Personas help designers to create understanding and empathy with the end-users. Thanks to personas designers can gain a perspective similar to the user. Creating user personas can help designers step out of themselves and recognize that different people have different needs and expectations.

The What of Learning
Learning gaps and objectives identified I constructed a Modular Framework, by assigning each learning outcome to a block of learning (module).
Using the Modular Framework and a top-down approach I broke down the learning outcomes into smaller chunks of information and learning, to create the following Content Map.
The How of Learning

Using the 3-step mapping process and referring back to my personas, the identified business need and learner gap I mapped out the mode, format and flow of the learning experience
