THE MUN

The 5th and 6th may 2022, NDP euro’s students participated to TDA’s event : the MUN.• What is the MUN ?During two days, students from TDA and NDP were divided into 4 committees (UNICEF, INTERPOLE, General Assembly and UNEP) to treat different issues relating to their committees by representing a country. We all had a partner who we chose in advance, so we were all groups of two.
• Before the MUNOne day, at the end of a lesson, our euro teacher, M. Daullet, told us about this project. Not everyone was willing to do it. Some days later, students from TDA came to explain their project, and everyone agreed to participate (except one student) We chose our partners, and our committee (for us, it was UNICEF). Before the MUN, we all had to write a position paper. It was a text talking about our country’s situation in our committee. For example, we were representing Haiti, and UNICEF’s subjects were child malnutrition and underage girls marriage.
• During the MUNAt first, there was a short opening ceremony. Right after, we went into our committee’s classroom and started the debates. There were different rules (general speaker’s list, moderated caucus, unmoderated caucus...), which were difficult to understand, but we still managed to understand them quickly. There were also breaks during the sessions, and it was an occasion to share our experiences with other committees. Each day, we treated a different subject with the other countries of our committee, and at the end of the day, we had to find a solution, by voting a resolution. The chairs who were organising the debates were very nice and helped us understand everything.
• After the MUN There was a closing ceremony, where we got awards : three for each committee. NDP students won several awards : in UNICEF, the delegation of Haiti (Victoria SZTAJN and Yara BALTI) got the best position paper and got an honourable mention for the best delegation. In INTERPOLE, the delegation of France (Yann HAETTEL and Sean LEVINE) won the best delegation and the delegation of Pakistan (Ethan DOSSA and Diane MOREK) got an honourable mention for the best position paper. After the closing ceremony, there was a reception. We talked about the MUN in class ; we were all agreeing that it was a really good experience and that we all enjoyed it. We all kept good memories.
