POLITICAL

Since Spain and England colonization, Jamaica was the scenary of of an intense social struggle, beginning with the slave rebellions and abolitionist movements; specially with African slave labor because of that ideology of the "superiority of white civilization" and the "inferiority of blacks", which implies a racial structure.

CONTEXT

The British empire was a worldwide system of dependencies that was brought under the sovereignty of the crown of Great Britain. It began in the 1600s and ended in 1997.

ECONOMICAL

After the defeat of France in the Napoleonic Wars (1792–1815). The British Empire appears as the principal naval and imperial power of the 19th century. The British Empire grew the British economy, it traded its goods, and all profits were sent to Britain. The slave trade made Britain rich, they traded sugar cane, tea, silk, paintings, art, jewels, sugar, cotton, perfumes, and tobacco

SOCIAL

People were brought to Britain from the Caribbean to help rebuild Britain after the loss of many soldiers. the British subjected millions of indigenous black people and in this case obviously Jamaicans to violence, death, economic crises, stole land. The hierarchical level that was established at the social level was important so that the British also became richer through mercantilism on a daily basis

See the images of the video to have a clear idea of the social situation

CULTURAL

Culture helped to define British imperialism as distinct from other European versions. The culture of imperialism promoted ‘Britishness’ but also embraced aspects of the civilizations it came across which are concepts very related to that trade culture that raised because of exchange of material goods

How this cultural aspects affect in the future ?

POLITICAL

Britain took over many counties, and the Empire expanded. They also took the people on and added them into the British army. After rebellions and natural disasters occurred, Queen Elizabeth 1, established the precedent that she would extend the protection of the Crown empire to any of her subjects wherever in the World they should live

CULTURAL

From 17th century to 18 century-British colonial system imposed social culture and structural constructions of gender and sexuality on the local population.
