Would you want to live the rest of your life and never feel any pain in your body again?

The human nervous system has two main parts:
  • the central nervous system (CNS)
  • the peripheral nervous system (PNS)

Central Nervous System Review

The central nervous system is made up of the brain and spinal cord. These two organs control all life functions, such as:
  • involuntary activity: heartbeat, breathing, food digestion
  • reflex activity: blinking, sneezing, yawning
  • voluntary movement: walking, sitting, jumping
  • cognitive functions: thinking, learning, creating
The peripheral nervous system (PNS) connects the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) to the rest of the body.

The PNS is divided into two parts: the somatic nervous system and the autonomic nervous system.

31

The main function of the somatic nervous system (SNS) is to transmit signals between the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and the body’s muscles to control voluntary movement and reflexes. The SNS does this by processing sensory information through the five senses of sight, taste, touch, smell, and hearing.

The autonomic nervous system is divided into two parts:
