1.1. MULTIPLE-CHOICE CLOZE
In this part, you have to read a short text and complete a multiple-choice cloze task. Eight words or phrases have been removed from the text. For each gap, you have to choose from four options the word or phrase which fits best.
Read the text and decide which option fits best
Fast fashion is a present-day term which might be (defined-called-named-definitioned)as unsustainable clothes manufacturing process. Fast fashion brands produce low-cost clothing fast in an attempt to (go -follow-keep-get) up with the latest fashion tendencies. They use the ideas of famous designers to create replicas which will be affordable for everyone. As clothes become cheaper and trends change faster, shopping (takes -turns-becomes-gets) into a kind of entertainment. Customers are encouraged to buy more items of clothes, put them on a couple of times, then discard and start looking for a new trendy thing. Although fast fashion seems to be (useless-beneficial-harmful-priceless) for customers, it is extremely damaging to the environment. Every year, more than eleven million tons of clothing is being discarded in the USA. These garments, which are likely to (contain-preserve-involve-include) various pesticides, chemicals and even lead, do not decompose and (durt-contaminate- purify-detoxicate) water and air.
Read the text and decide which option fits best
It is not only nature that is affected by fast fashion, but also people who wear all those low-cost clothes. Some items of clothing might contain dangerous amounts of toxic elements. The health of people working for fast fashion brands is permanently being threatened by (upwork -overwork -workload -underwork) and contact with hazardous chemicals. Also, it has been proven that the people working at fast-fashion factories are often badly paid and have to work long hours in bad (circumstances-conditions-consequences -events)because they have no other options.

Being comfortable and cheap to buy, T-shirts _______ become a necessary item in everyone's wardrobe. T-shirts might be used for different purposes in everyday life. T-shirts appeared hundreds of years ______ and were first used as underwear. Manufactured T-shirts appeared at the beginning of the twentieth century as a part ____ standard military uniform in the USA, and at the time a T-shirt was still an underclothing item.

Although war veterans continued wearing T-shirts in daily life, this piece of clothing gained its popularity because of Hollywood stars. Marlon Brando and James Dean, _____ were iconic film stars in the 1950s, started using T-shirts to create the look of a tough guy. 1.3. WORD FORMATION

The advantages of e-mails
I suppose that the computer is the best invention ever, and it has become an (essence)essential part of our life. For example, I cannot imagine my everyday routine without emails. It is such an easy and (effort)way to write letters. When I was a teenager, I rarely took a pen in my hand to write a letter, even to thank my (relation) and friends for the gifts they sent me. They must have thought that I was so (polite). However, these days, when I spend (count )hours working on the computer, it's not a problem for me to send an e-mail to my aunt, Helen, or my business partner, George. Sending emails is a real (please) compared to handwritten letters.
Read the text. Use the word given in the box to form a word that completes the sentence
The advantages of e-mails
I hated the latter so much because of the (embarrass )of knowing that people would be able to see and criticise my messy and (legible) handwriting. To be honest, my spelling wasn't perfect too. Now, thanks to spell-checker, I can edit what I've written very quickly and easily before I send it. Young people nowadays tend not to appreciate what they have, but I can't stop thinking of how (wonder) fast and easy everything is. When I was a teenager, we couldn't even imagine anything like that.
1.4. KEY WORD TRANSFORMATION

You are going to read an article about cheerleading. Choose the answer (A, B, C or D) which you think fits best according to the text
Is cheerleading a sport?
Cheerleading has become extremely popular recently. It was even acknowledged as the fastest-growing girls' sport. However, some people don't agree that cheerleading can be called a sport. The thing is that they confuse sideline cheerleading with competitive cheerleading. Sideline cheerleading is meant for entertaining the audience during the breaks and is not considered a sport. On the other hand, competitive cheerleading is a sport which has its own rules. According to the Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Advisors, competitive sport is "physical activity against/with an opponent, governed by rules and conditions under which a winner is declared, and the primary purpose of the competition is a comparison of the relative skills of the participants."
Competitive cheerleading fits this definition. First of all, it is a sport which includes a lot of physical activity. In this regard, it can be compared to gymnastics or athletics. Cheerleaders perform various tricks such as lifts and tosses. There are also "fliers", where people are thrown in the air, and "bases", which require strength and collaboration between the members of a team. Secondly, the same as volleyball and tennis, cheerleading has its own guidelines. A team has only three minutes and fifteen seconds and a limited area to show their performance skills. Of course, there are certain criteria according to which cheerleaders are evaluated. The points are similar to that of gymnasts: the level of difficulty, technique, creativity and sharpness. The more difficult a trick is, the more points the team will score. One more thing that should be mentioned is health. Every professional athlete gets injured during their sporting career. According to the researchers, cheerleaders receive serious injuries, and schoolgirls doing sideline cheerleading as an extracurricular activity are no exception. It happens because in many schools, cheerleading is not considered a sport, so nobody ensures the pupils' safety. Cheerleading is not accepted as a sport because there is no equipment that is used by sportspeople. However, there are a lot of sports that don't require any equipment, such as swimming, wrestling and so on. Hopefully, cheerleading will soon become as well-known as any other sport.
1.- From the first paragraph, we understand that cheerleading A. is not a sport. B. is extremely popular among teenagers. C. is believed to be entertainment among some people. D. is entertainment during sport competitions. 2.- Cheerleading is compared to gymnastics because A. it requires the same physical strength. B. it is evaluated in the same way. C. it is also popular with teenagers. D. it also started as entertainment. 3.- Evaluation in competitive cheerleading is based on A. 4 criteria. B. 3 criteria. C. the criteria of strength and collaboration. D. the level of performance.
4.- The word it in Line 12 refers to A. sport. B. cheerleading. C. definition. D. trick. 5.- Sideline cheerleaders get injuries because A. they are not prepared for such physical activities. B. there is limited space. C. doctors can't diagnose them. D. nobody cares about safety measures. 6.- Some people refuse to acknowledge that cheerleading is a sport because A. people don't get injured during the competitions. B. only girls take part in it. C. it doesn't involve any equipment. D. there are no people who can judge the competitions.
2.2.- Text with 6 sentences missing
In this part, there is one long text from which six sentences have been removed. These are placed in jumbled order above the text along with an extra sentence that does not fit into any of the gaps. You have to reconstruct the text.

A. For Lucy O'Connor, this situation led to a complete failure. B. Due to the unfair rules, female boxers are constrained by their weight. C. Surprisingly, Lucy succeeded and won the competition. D. However, if she had moved up to lightweight, Lucy would have definitely lost the match. E. Despite being disqualified, she continued to train female boxers. F. However, it wasn't a victory at all. G. She retired because sudden weight loss had a negative impact on her health.
Women's boxing has long been in the shadows of sport. In 2012, it was finally included in the list of the Olympic Games. __________________________________________ The thing is that in men's boxing, there are 17 weight classes whereas women's boxing includes only three weight divisions: flyweight at 51 kg, lightweight at 60kg and middleweight at 75kg. __________________________________________ Lucy O'Connor wasn't always keen on boxing. She went to the gym in order to keep fit. There, her trainer suggested taking up boxing. As she enjoyed training so much, her coach offered to take part in the National Championships. ___________________________________________ She was overwhelmed with the victory and the fact that she was accepted to a special sports programme.
