In this scene after mary returns after finding out she was cheated on, she is hurt and weak the song connnects because it saying let me down slowly which is accpeting the fact what has happened and being sad/emotinal about it. She is in the process of accepting it, because previously she was in denial but now is in some sort of a weak/depressened state.

In the book Mary found out Tara and kelly took her money she remebered a habit of her mother, and put a pot of water and oil to boil. Eventually Kelly was chasing her and Mary threw the contents of the pot at her where kelly suffered from burns. this song connects to this scene of the story because it represents the emotions mary was feeling in the moment as well as her determination and drive (keeping her and bean safe) of survival.

In this scene Mary finds out Ted was cheating on her. She was shocked at the scene to fina another girl and just didnt want to believe it. In the song it talks about denying the fact that they've been cheated on and lying to their face because its easier to deny the truth.the line "that its only been me to touch you" relates to the story because ted slept with other girls and not just Mary, but in this scene it puts her in a state of denial(lower higlighted bit).

Throughouth the story in the general setting of the group home we see everyone is aginst Mary whether its physically/mentally abusing her, calling her out at group therapy, or overall being jerks even new girl who she thought were freinds switched sides and betrayed her. This relates to the song becuase in Mary's eyes everone is aginst each her and shes practically having to defend herself.

In allegedly ted and Mary are dating, because ted is 18 and mary is 15 it's technically illegal. sometimes Mary has suspuisions on where he gets certain things, hoping not from stealing. this relates to the song because favorite crime talks about the illegal couple and how she defends and assist him.

At the end of the book Mary is letting Ted know that for the both of them its best that they part ways to protect him and bean. this relates to the song because from Ted's perspective because he is put in a state of shock then sadness realizing hes going to be alone from his girlfriend and child, a piece of his life just taken away.

At the end of the book as Mary leaves the group home for the last time she starts to think about herself as a mother in the future. this relates to the song because Mary lost her childhood and lived it in jail/grouphomes and nows she's getting thrown into motherhood with a child of her own and even though she is excited she is still a bit uneasy and not fully prepared for the future.

I chose this song as the theme song because it talks about lying and the theme of this book/ message is partcially centered around manupilation, lying, and deception. So in the song the lie lie lie represents not only Mary and the crime, but also being betrayed by new girl, getting cheated on ny Ted, and more things that all have to do with perspective.
