New-Zealand

The politics of New Zealand function within a framework of a unitary parliamentary representative democracy. The structure of government is based on the Westminster system, and the legal system is modeled on the common law of England. New Zealand, as a Commonwealth nation, is a constitutional monarchy, in which Queen Elizabeth II is the sovereign and head of State. A constitutional monarchy is a type of political system that recognizes an elected or hereditary monarch as head of state, but where a constitution limits his or her powers, often with a separation of powers, it is called a parliamentary monarchy as it is the case for New Zealand.
