TLOU Fact vs Fiction
In The Last of Us, the dystopian society is based on real elements connected to pandemics and social collapse. The story is inspired by a real fungus called Cordyceps, which infects insects and it controls their behavior.The society in the story also reflects real events like quarantines and social chaos seen during modern pandemics, but the story exaggerates the effects to create a dangerous post-apocalyptic world.
Beyond the Collapse: The Fragility of Civilization
- Fear and survival: In extreme situations, people may become violent or selfish.
- Collapse of society: Governments, laws, and institutions can fail during a pandemic.
- Human relationships: Love, trust, and friendship become essential for survival.
- Nature vs humanity: The game shows that humans are not always in control of nature.

The New World Order
In the first part there are two large groups FEDRA (what remains of the United States government) that suppresses freedom by force and
fireflies (revolutionary forces), and there are both military hierarchies. In the second chapter the situation changes. There are three types of society: WLF, a paramilitary society, Jackson as community socialism and the Seraphites, a religious sect that rejects technology.
Is morality a privilege?
Is it right to sacrifice a person to have a chance of saving humanity? Joel makes a very selfish choice, but it was like she was his daughter. Is it right to do anything to survive? Because if I won't do it, someone else will. Belonging to a group may justify deplorable acts, as in varius regimes. Revenge destroys you inside, even if you have a happy family it can overwhelm you.
Post-Apocalyptic Dystopia
The themes thet we have studied in class and that i found in the story are: the decline of society, the moral dilemmas that brings the costant conflict tdo and not doing terrible actions. The last one theme is that the nature tries to regain his voice and power so the people has to learn about how to hunt and build weapons,and how to survive properly in that situation.
Could be our future?
I personally think that the future depicted in the last of us is semirealistic.Cordyceps fungi really exist and can control insects, Pandemics can cause social and economic collapse, The breakdown of institutions and the fight for resources are plausible scenarios. On the other hand A fungus completely controlling the human brain is very unlikely, The human immune system makes this type of infection difficult, The fast “zombie-like” transformations in the game are not scientifically realistic.
