Introduction
What is Professional Learning and Developement in CDETB
CDETB is a place where we learn, grow, and develop both individually and collectively. Staff are encouraged and supported to engage with continuous, contextual learning and development through active engagement with both accredited and non-accredited activities and processes. Through experimentation, implementation, evaluation and reflection, professional learning and development will result in enhancement of practices and personal and professional growth. Collective transformational growth will result in our agility to respond to the needs of CDETB and its wider community.
+ info
Over the course of this year, we have had 4 main areas of focus for PLD:
- CDU calendar and Moodle site
- Support of non accreddited PLD initiatives
- Financial assistance for accreddited courses
- PLD Working Group to develop a strategy for PLD
Additionally, we continued to develop, resource, support and expand CDETB led initiatives such as TELMS, Adult Literacy Awareness Training, Emerging Leaders Training and Middle Leaders Training (newly developed for 2022). We continue to support staff by providing financial assistance in areas that address our strategic priorities. Finally, in response to an identified need as part of our self evaluation, a working group specific to PL&D was established with its main remit being to develop an organisational strategy.
Based on some of the learning emerging from the evaluations as part of the annual review of CDETB provision, both through staff and learner feedback, there 4 main areas of focus were identified for the 2021/2022 academic year. We continued to provide a Monthly calendar of synchronous sessions for staff and this year improved communication of same by contacting all staff directly, as opposed to through their Principals/heads of centre. We further developed asynchronous resources through the CDU Moodle site.
CDU calendar and Moodle site
- A monthly calendar of events was issued highlighting both our own lunchtime/evening sessions and external events of relevance. Weekly reminders were sent to all staff.
- All recordings of sessions, including additional follow up resources and supports are hosted on the CDU Moodle site and links to the relevant sections were issued in a weekly round up to all staff (incl second providers)
- All PLN events facilitated by the CDETB Psychological Service were communicated through this monthly calendar and weekly reminders
- A new tracking system was designed to record attendance at all CDETB led sessions
- Topics were prioritised based on feedback from staff and learner surveys and evaluations from 2020/2021 sessions.
- Second providers had access to all sessions and specific sections on CDU Moodle site for staff development.
- New sections were added to the CDU Moodle site which is now integrated with Office 365 for ease of access.
