A Guide to
Christian Pilgrimage
Pilgrimage can help you understand the journey of Christ, and follow in his footsteps: literally or metaphorically.
Bethlehem
Most Christians travel to Bethlehem as it is the traditional birthplace of Jesus Christ. Usually, they'd head to the Church of Nativity as it is believed that Jesus was born there. Most Pilgrims walk the journey betwen Nazareth and Bethlehem, as it was the same path Mary and Joseph had to cross so she could safely give birth to Jesus. Normally you'd want to travel from Jerusalem to Bethlehem. The journey is a bit too long to be comfortable, but it should be relatively easy if you are properly prepared and packed. However, if you plan to go into Bethlehem from another location, it may be more difficult. It's best to have your passort on you at all times as the borders of Bethlehem are controlled by the Palestinian Authority. You'll have to show your passport if you're coming in on a tour bus. If you don't feel comfortable with this method, go via car.

Jerusalem
It was thought that Jesus spent the seven days leading up to his death in Jerusalem, so Christians travel there to remember and honour the key events that hapened in that final week, known as the 'Holy Week'. Some popular places to visit are: The Garden of Gethsemane This is the site where Jesus was crucified. Via Dolorosa The path Jesus carried his cross over for the crusifixion. Church of The Ascension Marks the site where Jesus rose into heaven. It is generally safe to visit Jerusalem, even though there are still some conflicts in place. This is why there are extra security measures in place. Like Bethlehem, you'll have to have your passport with you to get past the border, which is a long process, but worth it in the end.
