My Topic

How did I choose my Topic ?

I had many different ideas on what my topic should be about like:

Technology

Engineering

Medicine

Space

The Environment

The Title

How did I pick my title ?

I thought of different titles for the different topics I wanted to do it on like:

• (Space) - Is it possible for aliens to exist?
• (Environment) - Evaluating the sustainability of renewable energy
• (Medicine) - Is it worth becoming a doctor?
• (Technology) - How would Video Games affect a human ?
• (Engineering) - Will Artificial Intelligence be responsible for all engineering in the future?

Why I chose my title

• Doesn't link to closely to my other GCSE subjects unlike the other potential topic ideas.
• I love technology and I am especially interested in its effects because I use a form of technology in one way or another every day.

Initial Ideas

What were my initial ideas ?

• I already knew my project topic and title
• So I then asked my peers and my supervisor about what I needed to do next.
• There were many tasks I needed to complete so I just listed them plainly.
• The most significant tasks I thought to complete first were the Project journal and essay.
• I thought to write an initial draft before my actual final essay.

Objectives of my HPQ

Use my resources effectively and reference them in where appropriate in my project.

Record all of my project in a concise and detailed project log

Produce a highly detailed essay using my topic title

Research

Referencing and scources for research

My main sources include:

• WIRED
• Digital trends
• Tech radar
• Statista.com (For Stats)

For referencing, I used Harvard referencing as suggested by my HPQ supervisor and centre coordinator. To write my essay, I preferred to use word over other writing platforms as it had the referencing style built in.

Planning

How did I plan ?

• To be time efficient, I chose to document all my work directly into my Project Q whilst also writing down key deadlines alongside.
• I used the Eisenhower Matrix method to organise these tasks so that I knew which tasks to do first. This was suggested by a guest speaker, Dr Richard Penny.
• Because I had used time effectively, I was able to stick to my deadlines most of the time and as a result, I was able to to finish the early stages of my project early.
• I procrastinated afterwards elongating the time required for writing my final essay.

• biggest issue - would sit down to do HPQ but then end up doing something else
• Referencing
• didn't reference sources
• many unreliable ones
• had to go through again to reference

• would spend the whole lesson researching 1 source or writing 1 journal entry
• wasted so much time on making my journal look really good

What I would do next time

What would I do next time?

• Productivity
• utilize smaller sections of time throughout the day
• organize your journal more effectively so that its easier later on
• start research as early as possible
• Not ignoring

• Reference
• Manage sources better at the start
• check for credibility and avoid heavily opinion based sources

• Procastination
• Not leave the majority of the HPQ to do in year 10
• Get distracted less whilst doing research or writing
• Stay focused on the precise goal and not on time-wasting exercises that didn't achieve much

Lastly I would choose a bit more of a narrower topic instead of a broader one like my current HPQ title.
