Present simple:

was/were+ verb -ing+ when/while+ pronoun+ past simple. I was eating salad when Samuel called. She was playing basketball while I ate. They were driving when they had an accident.

Interrupted actions: rules

I was cooking when my mom called. They were watching TV when the pizza arrived. She was sleeping while the dog scaped. You were eating chocolate when I came home.

Interrupted actions

  • While: it's used when a situation is happening simultanously.
EX: She was sleeping while the dog scaped.
  • When: it's used when a situation started after another one.
EX: I was cooking when my mom called.
