Dans le message du président publié dans le numéro de mai 2021 de ce bulletin, j'ai déploré le fait que cela faisait presque deux années complètes que nous n'avions pas pu nous rencontrer en personne et, avec la réunion virtuelle CMESG/GCEDM de 2021, il allait falloir attendre encore un an avant de pouvoir le faire. Eh bien, cela fait maintenant trois ans que nous n'avons pas pu nous réunir en personne en tant que communauté et nous devrons être patients encore au moins une année complète pour pouvoir le faire à nouveau. Malgré cela, la communauté CMESG/GCEDM est restée forte et, à l'approche de la réunion virtuelle de 2022, nous nous réjouissons de pouvoir nous rencontrer, discuter, réfléchir et socialiser d'une manière qui nous est devenue familière - virtuellement. Comme en 2021, nous avons un programme scientifique réduit, mais stimulant, avec une plénière, six groupes de travail et de nombreux nouveaux docteurs.
Enfin, ceci est mon dernier message en tant que président du CMESG/GCEDM. J'ai apprécié le temps que j'ai passé à servir cette grande communauté et j'ai aimé le faire en partenariat avec les fabuleux membres de l'exécutif avec lesquels j'ai eu le privilège de travailler. Je tiens à féliciter Lisa Lunney Borden pour son élection en tant que prochaine présidente de la CMESG/GCEDM et j'ai hâte de voir ce qu'elle et l'exécutif nous apporteront dans les années à venir. In the president's message in the May 2021 issue of this newsletter I lamented the fact that it had been almost two full years since we had been able to meet in person and, with the upcoming 2021 virtual CMESG/GCEDM meeting, it was going to be another year before we would be able to do so. Well, it has now been three years since we have been able to meet face-to-face as a community and we are still at a minimum of a full year from being able to do so again. Despite this, the CMESG/GCEDM community has remained strong and, as we head towards the 2022 Virtual Meeting, we look forward to the opportunity to meet, discuss, think, and socialize in ways that have become all to familiar – virtually. Like in 2021, we have a reduced, but stimulating, scientific program with one plenary, six working groups, and many new PhD presenters.
Finally, this is my last newsletter message to you as the president of CMESG/GCEDM. I have enjoyed my time serving this great community and have enjoyed doing so in partnership with the fabulous executive members I have had the privilege to work. I want to congratulate Lisa Lunney Borden on her election as the next president of CMESG/GCEDM and look forward to seeing the places she, and the executive, take us in the years to come. April 15,2022“Certainly uncertain” seems to be the prediction for almost everything these days. On the weather front, certainly uncertain is a fitting forecast for the current conditions here on Vancouver Island. Not only have the past weeks brought April showers but also brilliant sunshine, gale force winds, sleet, hail, thunderstorms, even snow (as I write)—and sometimes—all seven in less than 24 hours. Yet despite the temperatures which hover just above freezing by day and dip below zero overnight, I’m certain the seasons have changed. I send this postcard of a skunk cabbage in full bloom as proof! ...

The Giant Soup Can of Hornby Island

On Hornby Island, BC, local artists were commissioned to paint the volunteer fire department's water tanks in a dozen different locations around the island. Artist Pyx Sutherland noticed that this tank was in exactly the same proportions as a Campbell's soup can and painted this (controversial) tribute to Andy Warhol's famous 1960s soup can pop art paintings. Lots of math problems could come out of this story...

According to the constitution, CMESG membership runs from the beginning of one meeting to the beginning of the next. If you paid your membership fees in 2021 (regardless of the time of year), those fees were associated with your 2020-2021 membership. If you wish to attend the 2022 annual meeting, we ask that you pay your 2022/2023 membership fees.
