Academic English Skills: Listening Exam A) Test Format The listening exam has three parts. Part 1 - You will hear three conversations. You will listen to each conversation twice. After each conversation, there are 4 multiple choice questions. There are 12 questions in total. Part 2 - You will listen to a lecture of approximately 10 minutes. You can also listen to this lecture twice. During this part, you should take notes on a piece of paper to prepare for Part 3. There are no questions to answer in this part. You must complete and submit Parts 1 and 2 before you can start Part 3. Part 3 - You can listen to the same lecture twice again on page 1 of Part 3. While you listen, you will answer 11 questions about the lecture. You will then go to page 2 for the final question (Q12). When you go to this page, you will NOT be able to go back to page 1 so make sure that you entered your answers for the first 11 questions before you move on to page 2. On page 2 you can NOT listen to the lecture again, so you will need to use your notes to answer Q12. Make sure you have clear notes before you go to page 2. B) Length of the Exam The total exam lasts 90 minutes. You have 45 minutes for Parts 1 and 2 and another 45 minutes for Part 3. C) Audio Playbacks You can pause the audio while listening, but you cannot go back or skip forward. In Parts 1 and 2, if you pause and then move to the next page, you cannot continue from where you left off. However, you can go back to the previous page to check your answers. You will find the audio recording at the bottom of each page, except for page 2 in Part 3. You can listen to the short conversations in Part 1 twice, and the lecture four times in total (twice in Part 2 and twice in Part 3). Important: Don’t forget to submit your work when you finish, or it will not be graded.
