ACTIVITY HERE

These circuits are complete and incomplete. 1. Write in your notebook if they are complete or incomplete. 2. Later, tell me WHY they are incomplete and DRAW a way to fix it.

Electricity

What is a machine?

ELECTRICAL ENGINE

In an electrical engine, magnets are placed around cables. When electricity flows down the cables and reaches* the engine, the magnets turn. This movement is then transmitted using a belt or an axle to the other components of the machine. For example: Washing machines, trains and some cars have electrical engines.

COMBUSTION ENGINE

Fuel, such as petrol, powers a combustion engine. A spark* starts the fuel burning. The force produced by the burning of the fuel pushes the moving components. The combustion produces gases, which are expelled out of the machine. Combustion engines are used for many large vehicles.

Create your own circuit

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Cut components of your circuit
  2. Pick up your notebook
  3. Glue the components.
  4. Write the components´definitions (you can watch "Science virtual classroom: electricity).
  5. Colour your circuit
* Pay attention with the order.

Mission

CONDUCTOR

OR

INSULATORS

INSULATOR

It doesn’t allow an electric current to flow through it.

CONDUCTOR

It is something that allows an electric current to flow through it. Most metals are good conductors.

What is static electricity?

It is an accumulation of an electric charge on the surface of an object.

EXAMPLES

MAGNETISM

A magnet is a metallic object that attracts certain metallic objects. This is called magnetism.

Characteristics

REPEL

  • It´s made from iron, nickel , steel or cobalt.
  • All magents have got TWO poles: a north pole and a south pole.
  • Poles create a magnetic field in the space around the magnet..

Magnetic materials

ATTRACT

MAGNETIC FIELD

It is a field that describes the magnetic influence on moving electric charges

The Earth is like a huge magnet because its centre contains metals like iron and nickel, which are magnetic. The Earth has two magnetic poles. The two poles create a magnetic field.

HOW TO CREATE A COMPASS

ELECTROMAGNETISM

Electromagnetism is when an electric current flows through a conductor and creates a magnetic fleld along the conductor.

Electromagnets are temporary magnets. They work when we turn on an electric current. They stop working when we turn the current .

CONDUCTOR

OR

INSULATOR

Do you know what is the difference between conductor and insulator materials?

MISSION

Complete the Mission

Oh no! I want to create an electric circuit bur I have a problem. I don´t know what materials are conductor and what are insulator? Take one paper and classify.

Mission

To achieve this mission, you have to take one paper and click activity 1.
