Topic: Techy Social Change Subtopic: Positive and negative technology impacts on teens

Introduction

In our work, we will adress the positive and negative impacts that technologies have on teens pointing out the main ideas of our text, drawing up a mind map of our work theme and saying the pros and cons of technology on teens mental and social well-being.

The pros and cons of technology on teens mental and social well-being

As we all know, technologies and everything that surrounds it can bring many advantages but also disadvantages on teens mental and social well-being. What are the pros and cons about it?

The pros:

• Notices: Today the news arrives every second and we can access them through the internet, which is a positive aspect because teenagers are more informed about what is happening in their country and in the world.

• Online services: many online services can be useful for the development of teenagers, there are platforms: support for education and learning, help to solve problems, tips to have a better relationship with friends at school, among others.

• Meet new people: meeting new people online can be a way of developing certain problems like shyness. We can meet people from the other side of the world without having to leave the house, increasing our spirit of conviviality.

• Lounge: more and more teens spend their free time doing different things online, thus spending their free time playing games, socializing with friends, discovering new things on the internet, etc., and if we do everything right, online platforms are a good place to spend some time of our day.

The cons:

• Increase in loneliness: nowadays, there are more and more online platforms for teenagers to do a variety of things, ending up isolating themselves in their space and reducing their social interaction.

• Exposure to internet dangerous such as cyberbullying: this type of digital violence greatly influences the psychological state of any teenager but especially the most vulnerable ones. It's something that affects people and can bring health problems, mental and social problems and other type of problems.

• Self-esteem problems: with the social media instagram for example, teens follow the influencers that they like the most and are inspired by and often tend to compare themselves and want to be the same as what they see and end up with low self-esteem.

• Lack of interest in school: many teenagers are really addicted to technologies and only think about being on a cell phone, computer, tablet, etc., losing interest in school activities. Many come home and go to play and then stay for hours at a time and when they realize it is already dawn and they have to sleep and they haven't studied.

What we learn?

With this project work we learnt that technology is not just a bed of roses and there are a lot of advantages and disadvantages that we have to know. With our work we can conclude that nowadays technologies are something essential in the daily lives of teenagers because more and more we need our cellphone or computer to do almost everything but what we must take into account is that there are precautions that everyone should have to make the internet a safe place and they shouldn't let technologies become their life.
