EDITOR´S WORD

The second edition of "OUR ENGLISH MAG" is in your hands (and in your eyes and ears). A group of 18 journalists and reporters in year 5 at Emilia Pardo Bazán School have created an exclusive article each but, this time, all of them are related to THE SEA, which is the topic of our PDI this year. Therefore this is a special edition. Under the title "A BLUE DAY", we invite you to spend a day (or more) enjoying the benefits of the BLUE. Blue instils peace, tranquility, calmness and serenity, thorugh the constant presence of blue in our lives: the ocean and the sky. Let´s discover the different types of sea: a sea of calm, of hope, of wonder, of surprise, of fun, of flavour, of colours... but also of mystery, of confussion, of fear, of war...Are you ready for a "blue experience"?

Stand up, leave your chair and go outside in search of the BLUE: it is a lovely sunny day. You don´t need anything special, just YOURSELF! Now walk down the street, cross the road and get into the nearby beach. You are almost there: take a deep breath, look at the blue horizon and sit comfortably by the sea, feeling the sand in our fingers, listening to the waves and smelling the salty water … You can also go and touch the sea and even taste it. Your “blue day” is about to begin. ..Meet me where the sky touches the sea…

In the sea there are many fish with different colours. It depends on thewater they live.

WONDERFUL FISHES

SECTION 1: OUR FISHThe fishes that swim in our waters (Atlantic Ocean) have dark colours with blue and silver tones.

3: GOODBYE!The fishes and their colours change according to the waters where they live. In the colder waters, the colours are dark and in the warm waters, the colours are brighter. Bye!

2: PACIFIC AND INDIAN ZONESIn these zones the fishes have bright colours unlike the ones in the Atlantic Ocean. For example: bright yellow, bright red, blue...

Paddle Surf

This is a sport that is done in the water .It´s like surfing but with a paddle and waves are not needed. You also need a life jacket so that when you fall into the water, you don´t sink. It´s a very beautiful sport.

GALICIAN-STYLE OCTOPUS by Carla 5B Galician-style octopus is a traditional Galician dish and basic in its gastronomy, although its consumption has become widespread throughout Spain. It is a festive dish made with whole cooked octopus that is present at festivals, fairs and pilgrimages in Galicia. Just cut the octopus into slices and add olive oil and paprika. Yummy!!!

Regarding their habitat, we must know that dolphins are found in all the existing oceans in the world.

Dolphins are the best known marine animals in the world. Dolphins are known for their playful behavior and agility. They can live more than 30 years in captivity.

DOLPHINS by Sara 5A

In the wild, these beautiful and graceful swimmers can reach speeds of over 30 kilometres per hour. Dolphins also have a spiracle on their heads, a hole they use for breathing.

The appearance of the body of the sunfish resembles a large head with fins. It is flat, oval and quite large since it can measure up to 3.3 m in length. In general the weight ranges between 247 and 2,000 kilos . Its color varies in shades of gray, brown and silvery gray.

Ocean waters are rich in beautiful, interesting, known, unknown and rare species. One of those that present this last characteristic for the vast majority of human beings is the sunfish, the heaviest bony fish in the world and whose physique is quite curious.

Sunfish

The sunfish is distributed in the temperate and tropical zones of the Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. In fact, it has a worldwide distribution. Its habitat corresponds to deep coral reefs and algae beds, in the open sea.

It looked like a shark but five times bigger. It could swallow a small plane just by opening its mouth, that was full of teeth as big as the knives a butcher uses. He was a true killing machine.

The mosasaur is one of the most dangerous predators of all time. It is fifteen meters long and as tall as a floor and a half of a building. It fed on Plesiosaurs and Ginsu sharks. It was very dangerous.

Mosasaur

It appears in many movies, but the most famous one is "Jurassic World",in which he is able to eat a Tyrannosaurus Rex.

They created this car for themselves in order to use it in the war to go by water to attack the other civilizations without they even noticed it. I don't really like this car because it was used by the nazis and we all know that they were not honest. Thank god they lost the war.

This car is not a normal car: the Nazis created this Volswagen for the army. It is one of the best-selling amphibious cars but it wasn't that succesful because they lost the World War 2.

Although bathing in the ocean may seem like a great pleasure, not all people think the same.

THALASSOPHOBIA by Ximena 5C

The wonderful sea can be a terrible place for some people, to the point of generating intense discomfort and fear just thinking about it. This condition is known as thalassophobia: fear of the sea and the depths.Thalassophobia is one of many phobic pathologies diagnosed in psychology. Other well-known phobias are claustrophobia, arachnophobia, coulrophobia or acrophobia. When a person suffers from a phobia, they can experience anxiety attacks, panic and even difficulty breathing when exposed to that situation that generates fear.
