THERE ARE FIVE TYPES OF FINISHES THAT MOST PAINT MANUFACTURERS HAVE: MATT, SATIN, SEMI-GLOSS, GLOSS.SATIN, SEMI-GLOSS AND GLOSS PAINTS WILL HIGHLIGHT IMPERFECTIONS IN THE WALL AND MUST BE USED WITH PRECAUTIONS. DENTS AND PATCHES WILL BE SEEN IN THIS FINISH. SATIN, SEMI-GLOSS AND GLOSS PAINTS SHOULD BE USED TO HIGHLIGHT ANY WALL.

TECHNIQUES
WALL:
Brush is ideal for uneven difficult surfaces that require preciseness.Rollers are faster than brush and produce a uniform finish. They are best suited for large uniform surfaces Spray painting is the fastest of the three although it is best applied in factory environment (high ventilation, particle free environment).
STEP 1: Clean the walls with 50 grit sand paper. STEP 2: Apply 1 layer of Primer. STEP 3: Apply Paint Putty on the paint STEP 4: Apply 2nd coat of Primer STEP 5 (Optional): Apply basecoat for the paint STEP 6: Apply finish paint in 2-5 layers
FURNITURE:
STEP 1: Clean the surface with 180 grit sand paper STEP 2: Apply 1-2 coats of Epoxy insulator. STEP 3: Fill in the surface dents with putty. STEP 4: Apply your final finish 1st coat. STEP 5 (Optional): Light sanding with 320/400 grit sandpaper. STEP 6: Repeat steps 4 and 5 as required.

TYPES OF TEXTURES
Textures can be categorised in many different ways, but the categorisation most apt for interior design is: Delicate Textures: Smooth surfaces, luxurious materials, visual hardness and shine are all characteristics of delicate textures. Examples are: Marble, Silk, Glass, Steel. RuggeD Textures: Rough surfaces, earthy materials, softness, & knottiness are all examples of Rugged Textures. Examples are: jute , linen, teracotta, exposed concrete etc. A texture being perceived as rugged or delicate will depend on the way it has been used, the level of finishing that has been applied.

SELECTING A TEXTURE PALETTE
STEP 1 : UNDERSTANDING THE ARCHITECTURE
A bare room that you need to decorate will still have a few elements: walls and ceiling, flooring, doors, and windows. The first step in selecting the texture palette is understanding whether the space has an already established ruggedness or delicateness. For example: presence of polished stone flooring, cornices on ceiling hints to a delicate, sophisticated setting

- Most of the textures present in the space should be in tune with the ambience created by the architecture.
- So if the ambiene is a sophisticated one, try to include delicate textures and materials to complement the atmosphere.
- For example: add velvet curtains in a marble flooring room.

- Sticking to a single scheme of textures works completely fine but a space will look complete once we can balance it with textures from the opposite spectrum.
- If the space has a dominant palette of sophisticated textures, balance them up with some rugged ones. Use these pieces as accents, just as we use cool accents in a warm color scheme.

HOW MANY COLORS ?
- A room consists of the walls, ceiling, furniture, upholstery and soft furnishings (rugs, curtains, cushions etc.)
- All in all a wholesome room should have atleast 3 (recommended is 5) colors in the form of paint and texture.
- A well-designed space can easily handle more than 5 colors

WARM NEUTRALS
- Neutrals are visually light colors that will work to provide a background to your color scheme & toned down version of pure hue.
- Having a neutral base lets you add in layers and/or pops of color
- to create depth in your space. Colors pop more when placed amiD neutrals.
- Neutrals can have two undertones: WARM and COOL

2.MID VALUES
- higher intensity than neutrals
- Mid values are the second layer of colors above your neutrals, they create the first layer of interest in any space. They are brighter than the neutrals.
- Neutrals allow your eyes to move freely around a space, mid values accentuate and complement those neutrals with their higher intensities.
- Mid values can have two undertones: WARM and COOL.

- Start with the foundation we created in the warm neutral color palette, but add in soft tangerine, a seashell pink, a soft pink-violet, and a touch of a copper-rust hue.

3.HIGHLIGHTS
- Highlights are the third layer of interest that completes a color palette. Two best ways to create highlights are:
- A well balanced room will need both warm and cool colors. If you are building a warm palette add cool highlights and vice versa.
- Ideally choose highlight colors that are very different from the dominant color of the space to add some excitement.

- Monochromatic Palette consists of a single pure hue that may or may not be used in different tints and shades.
- A monochromatic scheme does not neccesarily need to be boring, presented below are some ways to create interesting spaces, while staying in a single color!
- A strictly monochromatic palette is used to create an interesting space with the use of multiple tints, shades and tones of the color grey.

WHAT COLORS MY CLIENT WOULD PREFER ?
- Majorly, clients are clueless about the colors they like, if you ask them this question, they'll probably answer blue or red.
- As designers we understand that there are a thousand varieties of blues and reds, so, how do we know which to select?
- PRO TIP
- If you are comfortable wearing a color, you'll be comfortable in a space colored with it too.
- Have a look at your clients wardrobe, spread out the clothes and you can understand the colors that he/she likes. Maybe your client does not wear violet, that may mean that they might not be comfortable in it.
For example if you client has a colorful and airy wardrobe with graphic patterns and a feminine feel. You can create a palette of colors and patterns that complements their sense of style

- Sometimes, your clients will have existing furnishings that you need to design your room around. Suppose your client has a chocolate brown sofa that will form the seating in the living.
- How do you select a color scheme that goes with this sofa (or any furniture/art/uphostery)?
- PRO TIP
- Select 4-5 colors from that furniture/upholstery/painting. Of these colors:
- Use 1-2 as your neutrals that provide a background
- Use 1-2 as mid values
- Use 1-2 colors to add a pop of colors
- CONCEPT: If the colors of that peice are warm, paint you walls with warm colors, accent with cool colors.
For example:This mint sofa is matched with the teal walls beautifully. (Use the corresponding mid values, highlights and neutrals from that furniture/painting to create a matching palette.)

Chevron Print
Chevron print is a retro-inspired pattern of connected V's. It was very popular in the 1970s and has lately made a comeback. It has been named a top fashion trend for several years.

Greek Key pattern
In ancient Greece, the Greek Key was a symbol for 'infinity' and the 'eternal flow of things'. This is an obvious association, due to the pattern's unbroken, continuous style. Today, the Greek Key is known to symbolize 'eternity' and 'unity' because of the continuous line pattern.
OGEE pattern
An ogee is a distinctive pattern with two continuous S-shaped curves narrowing and widening. These two curves form a perfect oval before repeating out gracefully.
TARTAN pattern
A tartan is a textile pattern consisting of stripes of varying widths and colors crossed at right angles against a solid background, each forming a distinctive design featured in the clothing worn by members of the clan.
POLKA DOT pattern
While originally considered to be a feminine print, polka dot has since become popular in men's fashion as well. In 1962, Marvel Comics even introduced a polka-dotted superhero, Polka-Dot Man, who used the print to take down foes.

steps to select patterbn
STEP 1:Try to see if there is an already established pattern in your room, these maybe apparent patterns: like a polka dot curtain, or they may be more subtle, like the geometric pattern established by an exposed concrete wall. Add other Patterns that compliment this scheme. STEP 2: Build your palette with atleast 1 large sized pattern and a few small patterns. STEP 3: Balance your pattern palette, so if you have a majority of geometrics, try to add in some abstract or floral motifs!

PROPORTION SYSTEM
HOW MUCH COLOR , HOW MUCH TEXTURE ?
So you've selected your color, texture and pattern palette. Now the essential question is what percentage of your area will the neutral and mid values take, how much will the accents take.And what percentage of the total area will your patterns and textures occupy?
COLOR PROPORTIONS
Generally neutral colors cover the maximum area, mid values cover less, and highlights cover the least.
THE TWO PROPORTIONS
There are two major propotions that are referenced by designers. These are not rules and laws yet they help us in understanding and checking if we are on the correct path: 1. 60-30-10 System 2. 40-30-20-5-5 System
60-30-10 SYSTEM

Consider the entire area of your composition. Let 60% of that area belong to Color 1, 30% to Color 2 & 10% to Color 3.Let's say now that your textures and patterns belong to Color 2. Let 40%-60% of the area given to Color 2 be occupied by textures and patterns.
MID TONES 30%
HIGHLIGHTS 10%

Similar to the 60-30-10 proportion system, distribute your colors with 40% going to color 1, 30% to Color 2, 20% to Color 3, & 5% each to the final 2 colors (4,5). Let's say now that your textures and patterns belong to Color 2 and Color 5 . Let them occupy 40%-60% of the area given to Color 2 & Color 5.

North-facing rooms: Light in these rooms is cool and bluish. Bolder colors show up better than muted colors; lighter colors will look subdued. Best is to use warm palettes.
SUNLIGHT AND COLORS
EAST-facing rooms: MOSTLY WE GET LESS SUNLIGHT AND IS SIMILAR TO NORTH DIRECTION. East light is warm and yellowy before noon,then turns bluer later in the day. These are great rooms for reds, oranges and yellows.
SOUTH facing rooms: Lots of high-in-the-sky light brings out the best in cool and warm colors. Dark colors will look brighter; lighter colors will virtually glow. Due to the heat, keep a cooler palette.
WEST facing rooms: : These rooms tend to receive the most heat and light, keep a cooler palette here to offset it.

Artificial lighting will have an effect on how the colors of a spacE are perceived. This is quantified as CRI.Warm light will highlight the warm tones while dulling the cooler ones. White light from LEDs will highlight all colors equally, although white light from CFL's and Fluoroscent tubes will highlight the cool colors while greying out the warm ones.
