YES! WE ALL LOVE NOODLES

Noodles give strength! Generally, all food gives strength. We need strength to: work - think - walk-run around - ride bicycles- go to school -do our house chores...e.t.c We get tired when we have used up our strength or do not have enough strength for the task

What is Energy?

Just like we eat to get strength and we are strengthened to do our various daily activities, energy is the ability to do work. It is required for physical and mental work

Let's call them CLEMS N STEW Chemical, Light, Electrical, Mechanical, Sound, Nuclear, Solar, Tidal, Electromagnetic and Wind

- Name Surname

Chemical Energy

This is the form of energy contained in chemical substances. They are released and converted into another form when these chemicals undergo a chemical reaction. Examples include Food, batteries or cells.

CLEMS N STEW

BACK

NEXT

Light Energy

This is the form of energy (also under electromagnetic energy) that makes objects visible to the human eyes. We see with the light from the Sun. There are natural and artificial sources of light energy. The Sun, Moon, Stars & Fireflies are examples of natural sources. Firewood, Lanterns, Candles are examples of artificial sources

CLEMS N STEW

ELECTRICAL Energy

This is the energy of charged moving particles. Or energy due to the flow or movement of charges. It is used every day by us. It is used to power our houses, charge our phones, do our laundry, power our devices etc.

CLEMS N STEW

BACK

NEXT

MECHANICAL Energy

This is the energy a body has by virtue of its position or motion. It is a very common form of energy and we see its applications daily around us. It is divided into two (2) Kinetic Energy ( Energy of a moving body) Potential Energy (Energy of a body at rest)

CLEMS N STEW

BACK

SOUND ENERGY

Sound energy is the form of energy that is released through the vibrations of an object. These vibrations can be perceived by the ears as sounds, and they can travel through air, liquids, and solids

CLEMS N STEW

NUCLEAR ENERGY

CLEMS N STEW

This is the form of energy found in the core of an atom. This energy is released by splitting the nucleus of an atom into two smaller nuclei in a nuclear reactor. This process is called nuclear fission and can be spontaneous or controlled. It could be used to generate electricity and for developing war weapons among many other uses.

BACK

NEXT

SOLAR/HEAT ENERGY

Solar energy is the form of energy we get from the radiation of the Sun. It is a natural form of energy that is eco-friendly and renewable. It can be used for generating electricity, to heat up and cool our homes

CLEMS N STEW

BACK

NEXT

TIDAL ENERGY

Often at Beaches, we observe the rise and fall of tidal waves. The form of energy that can be harnessed from the fall and rise of wave tides is called Tidal energy. It is a renewable form of energy and can be harnessed to generate electricity.

CLEMS N STEW

BACK

NEXT

ELECTROMAGNETIC ENERGY

It is a form of energy that radiates and travel in waves. As the name implies, electromagnetic energy is the form of energy that possess both the electric field and the magnetic field.

CLEMS N STEW

BACK

NEXT

WIND ENERGY

Wind energy is the form of energy derived from the kinetic motion of air. It is renewable and can be used to generate electricity through wind turbines.

CLEMS N STEW

CLASSES OF ENERGY

Energy can be classified generally into two categories based on its sources. We have:
Renewable Energy
Non-Renewable Energy
The types of energy under this classification, are energy types that are gotten from sources that cannot be naturally renewed or replenished after use.

ENERGY CONVERSION

Energy can be converted from one form to another. Energy most often is transformed from its natural form to another form usable by humans. Energy conversion is also called energy transformation.

SUMMARY

If you are tired, it implies that you have used up your capacity to do meaningful work (Energy). You have converted the chemical energy into other forms of energy such as mechanical (walking and running around) or Mental (Academic work) energy. You need to refuel your energy storage! You need to eat.

SUMMARY

Energy is the ability or capacity of a body to do meaningful work. Energy can be converted from one form to another. CLEMS N STEW Chemical, Light, Electrical, Mechanical, Sound, Nuclear, Solar, Tidal, Electromagnetic and Wind In the next lesson, we will look at: 1. The daily life examples of energy conversion around us 2. The relationship between energy and power.

ASSESSMENT

Using your pen and paper, please answer the following questions: 1. In two paragraphs, explain why you feel hungry after the day's activities? 2. Give four reasons why energy is an important concept to us 3. List five types of energy, and give one example each.

FURTHER DAILY APPLICATION

Choose One out of these three projects to reinforce your knowledge.

Using any voice recorder or app, create your own music of at least three minutes to teach ENERGY to your friends

Using a pencil and your drawing book, create a stickman story of three scenes to explain the topic ENERGY to your 7-year-old brother.

Using your mobile phone and any video app of your choice, create an explainer video of three minutes to explain Energy to your friends
